update on my leg stuff

thank for everyone replying to my earlier posts.

I'm still no further along - my consultant thought i had damaged / loose ligaments in the ankle based on a physical exam, but i don't know why that would be causing so much pain on weight bearing.

It's been two months now that I am unable to walk and all I have to go on is some ligament strengthening exercises from the physio.

I honestly have no idea if I'll ever be able to walk again because it's certainly not getting any better, and I've got all sorts of other weird stuff going on like tingling all over the foot and leg all the time - clearly some nerve involvement.

Apparently ligaments take ages and ages to heal so I'm hoping that is the case, and I just need to be very patient. But it's giving me the most terrible anxiety and depression, and this whole experience has made me realise that the doctors are not magicians and they don't have all the answers.

Oh well - I guess we just have to live each day one at a time don't we,

Thanks everyone for your kindness.

I have similar problems with my ankles and lower legs. I had tests for peripheral neuropathy last year, but these were negative and I was told it was arthritis. The ankle pain has started recently and I hope it’s ligament or muscle damage caused by walking differently after hip replacement operations. I haven’t been to my doctor, they’ll give me painkillers and recommend physiotherapy! I’m doing exercises for my ankles and hope they’ll help eventually. I hope your ankles improve soon, but it’s depressing and frustrating too!

Hi, I did reply to your previous post suggesting it may be a torn ligament ( which I had suffered with from a freak accident) it is not something I have forgotten about because like you I was unable to walk or put any weight on it, I was also hindered by the fact that my whole foot and ankle was extremely swollen from fluid retention as well as a response to the injury.

If you read again my previous reply it will certainly get your foot to the ground and have you walking on it again.

Because of the pain you will feel apprehensive of doing this, my suggestion was to take things slowly not using the foot will have caused everything to stiffen and tighten, but really do need to be putting your foot to the ground and doing the exercises you have been given.

Sending best wishes for a good outcome x

I have end stage osteoarthritis in one ankle and severe osteoarthritis in the other one. I also have RLS and twitching in both calves, and get severe leg cramps in the early hours of every morning. Apart from offering me an replacement, the consultant seems to have nothing helpful to suggest. I don’t want to have the ankle replacement because I don’t trust my bones to safely manage the screws, etc.. So I fully understand your predicament. Have you had proper x-rays and an MRI to confirm the detail of your diagnosis?

The way I manage my ankles is by walking on them. Yes, it is very painful, but it is the only way because if I don’t walk, they both cease up and the problem compounds. But if it was me with what you have described, I would definitely get x-rays and an MRI first. You need to know exactly what you are dealing with.

Hi all,So it's nearly three months now and things are just getting worse.

I really think I have nerve damage because of all the numbness, tingling etc which is constant.

I don't think I've got a diagnosis yet, never mind any hope of recovery. But going back to the doc next week. I just don't have much faith that they really know what they are doing.

Its so depressing but everyone has their own problems don't they.

Thanks all
