Hi everyone,

Welcome to our very first Living and Learning Together topic! 👏Thanks to the wonderful feedback and encouragement from our amazing members and volunteers, we’ll be popping up in the community this winter to invite you to share your thoughts and ideas about the day-to-day realities of living with osteoporosis.

Our hope is to create a welcoming space where we can support each other by sharing real life experiences and exchange those valuable nuggets of wisdom that come from navigating life with osteoporosis.🤞 If there are topics you’d like us to cover, we’d love to hear your suggestions!

🎄With the festive season just around the corner, our volunteers thought it would be a great opportunity to share friendly ideas for enjoying Christmas while taking care of yourself. 🎄

To get us started, here are some of the things our volunteers chatted about….

🎁I’m not afraid to ask for help —whether it’s lifting something heavy or reaching up to high shelves or just needing an extra hand, people are more than happy to pitch in.

🎁I avoid using ladders when putting up decorations!

🎁 Whether I am indoors or outdoors, I make sure I’m still wearing sturdy shoes or slippers.

🎁If I’ve got little ones visiting, I try to be aware of toys on the floor, and new tripping hazards.

🎁I take a break when I need it!

🎁Planning ahead and prepping can make a big difference—getting some tasks done early can help reduce stress during the busy time.

🎁I am mindful of my alcohol intake — and how it might affect my balance.

🎁I take it easy when out and about —wet leaves and frost can make surfaces slippery, so slow and steady wins the race.

🎁Once I start a task I still find it hard to stop and rest, and I do need to rest otherwise I end up in pain. I have at last learnt to set my phone on a timer - that way I stop!

✨✨Over to you!✨✨

❓Do you have any go-to strategies that help you make the most out of the festive season?

❓Or perhaps you’re facing some upcoming challenges and would like some ideas on how to tackle them?

💬💬💬We warmly invite you to share your thoughts below. 💬💬💬

If you have any suggestions of topics you would like to see brought to our online community, or any feedback about how you find these spaces, please share your anonymous feedback in our form: forms.office.com/e/7d5EwCd88R

All good tips. I'd add Delegate tasks! Ask other people to lift heavy things out of the oven etc. And don't be jumping and dancing to the Christmas tunes, the Hokey Cokey is not what it's all about....

Told my family this year dinner is help yourself buffet! No slaving in a kitchen for me. I love to dance, but I will pace myself! I like to lie down too. Enjoy all you can, stop when you have too.
