I was diagnosed with osteoporosis about 5 years ago was put on alendronic acid tablet form for 2 years which I then stopped only side effect was irritated my stomach a bit. I also take calcium and k2 have just had another dexa scan and my spine has got significantly worse and doctor has recommended going on an injectable any advice are there any that have low side effects and for you that have been having them has there been a significant improvement also do the side effects settle down?

hi I too was taking tablets many years ago,but had stomach issues just like you.i then had 2 annual infusions at hospital, but on both occasions had bad neck pain after a couple of days which did not go away.Last couple of years have denosamab injection at g.p. under shared contract ,every 6 months with no side effects at all.My osteoporosis has improved a little, but as I am 80 I think that is probably the best outcome to be expected.I must add that I have never ever had a broken bone,so that is good. Also been on prednisolone for over 24 years so any damage would be hard to reverse completely I think. If offered denosamab,it may be worth researching and considering.Good luck, keep us posted.

Hi I too was on weeky tablet now just started teriparatide which is a daily injection. I think you have to have severe osteoporosis to be a candidate for this as well as suffering spine fracture this is what my consultant told me. If you look at my post you will see all comments on this it really seems to be the way forward Good luck xx

Hi I can only say for me as we are all different. I took one Alendronic Acid and the next day I was violently sick. I was taken off of them. Luckily I was in hospital when it happened as my T12 had gone. I couldn’t even walk. When I came home I was put on Terraparatide for my bones. It’s an injection you give yourself every day. I never thought I could ever do it but after the first couple of times I realised there’s nothing to it. You can only take it for two years and after I was put straight on to Denosumab which I’ve now been on for three or four years with no trouble. Others will disagree with this medication but like I say I can only say for me.

hi I too had alendronic acid tablets weekly for 6 months then I felt dreadfully sick, the was put on higher strength monthly only went 6 months… felt sick again.

Then went on the yearly infusion … had read about dreadful side effects… had it came home felt great ! Even went on here and told everyone I felt great.

THE THE NEXT DAY the side effect was glue like systems , put me in bed for 4 days.

Only had the one as I was supposed to go in May but had some dental work done which you gave to be careful with if on the infusion!

My husband Colin has cancer and been on treatment so I have put my second one on hold.

Personally I feel it is worth not being well for 4 days to have a year without tablets. So will be booking my second one.

My score 2 years ago was -3.5 so not good , only found out I has osteoporosis after a fall in Tenerife on the last day of my holiday smashing my hip… now have a new Spanish hip “Olay”
