I had osteoporosis confirmed yesterday and thought it would be good to find a community to join. I’m about to start my medication this weekend so I’m keen to listen and learn from others about it. I’m only 46 and don’t know anybody at all who has this condition (young or old) so I’m looking to connect with people for advice and support.

First thing I did when I discovered I had osteoporosis was to go online and join the Royal Osteoporosis Society, they have masses of information on there - everything you could possibly think of plus they have a helpline where you can speak to their nurses.
Then I found this website, I already used a couple of other Healthunlocked sites so it was just a matter of looking.
Do you know what has caused your osteoporosis at your age? Although I have a friend whose son was diagnosed with osteopenia in his 30s. Would you be able to take HRT? I was far too old when I was diagnosed but if I’d been younger than I’d have wanted to try that.
I’m sure you will find there will always be someone who can answer your questions but weight bearing and balance exercises are important as is a good diet and cutting out things that are known not to be good for our bones.
Good luck, it’s not a club anyone really wants to join.
We’d like to wish you a warm welcome to our community 😊 Getting a diagnosis can bring up lots of worries and concerns and can feel very lonely when we don't know anyone else living with osteoporosis, as you mentioned. So we really hope that our community is a place where you can feel heard and understood. We wanted to stop by to let you know that we have lots of information (including videos) on our website that you might find helpful including information for when newly diagnosed: theros.org.uk/information-a...
I belong to a FB group , The Strong Bones Challenge and it’s a brilliant group. Whilst medication and supplements aren’t discussed, there are PTs and Yoga Teachers who give great advice on exercise and bone building. It’s a very supportive group and positive , which personally I needed after so much negativity round my DEXA.
