Second MRI

Hi all. Just joined and I'm unsure if I'm in the right group because I've yet to gain a diagnosis. However, after extreme back pain, I was sent for a MRI from A and E which I had last Friday. They've just called and asked me to come for a further one, with contrast this time, this afternoon. I'm now scared! What could be the reasons? Is having two MRI scans in only 4 days dangerous? Thank you 😊

There is no radiation involved in an MRI so two in a short time shouldn’t be a problem. I had two within a couple of weeks. In my case they saw something in the lumbar scan that they felt needed a pelvic MSK scan. There could be any number of reasons for wanting to do another one with contrast I think it just gives them a clearer look.

I’ve never had a scan with contrast, my husband has had a few CT scans with contrast and it didn’t seem to bother him.

Hopefully someone on here will be able to tell you all about contrast but I’d try not to worry (too much)

Thank you. I think I'm worried because a few years ago, I had a scan and they found a tumour! It's all ok now, but it's just my past experience. I feel OK after it now. I've not heard of the pelvic MSK scan. I hope you are both recovering well.

I can see why you are worried, I hope it all went well for you and you don’t have to wait too long for your results.
