It might be worth making an appointment at a good local optician and getting them to have a look and advise you on what to do next. You can get little mites on your lids which are normal but can sometimes cause problems - your optician will know whether that’s the problem or if you’ve just got dry eyes. I say *just* but they can be a big problem as you’re finding out. I use dry eye drops all the time but sometimes I change to a different brand after a while.

You can get things like eye bags that you heat in the microwave and put over your eyes while you have a rest. You can also just use a hot wet face cloth or I have a facial sauna and I find the stem helps my eyes. I also take Omega 3 DHA capsules. I started taking them for my bones but discovered they seem to help my eyes feel better.

You can get things called Blephawipes to clean your eyelids too but if I were you I would go and see your optician they will be able to help and advise you.

You really are having a bit of a tough time at the moment with one thing and another aren’t you.

thanks, I use dr Hillary eye compress and eye wipes and preservative free eye drops it's a full time job using eye drops all the time stop your own eye tears from working.

It is indeed - saying you have dry eyes goes nowhere near describing how awful it can be. It’s ridiculous how dry eyes can water so much isn’t it. You could always try *wrap round* glasses or sunglasses to keep the wind out of your eyes, that sometimes helps a bit. I just keep eye drops in all my bags / pockets so that I’m never without them.

I’ve had quite good results with those Actimist sprays that you spray onto your closed eyes - I’m not sure if they are preservative free but I only use them every now and again and they’re fine for me.

Have you had your thyroid checked? That might totally not be the cause, but thyroid issues can cause both osteoporosis and dry eyes. Hope it all gets figured out.

Velly interesting! Did not know dry eye was symptom of OP, thought mine from M.E where it is recognised as symptom. I find it weird that it only happens in bouts and usually left eye. I just use water as allergy to lots of eye drops. Saw ad on tv a while ago re cure by laser thing. 🤔

Hello .

I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with your eyes 🙁

I, too , have eye problems from time to time… I hadn’t made the link with osteoporosis…

I’ve regularly had marginal corneal ulcers ( for years and years before the osteoporosis diagnosis),which they tell me are usually caused by dry eyes and blepharitis.

I always have to go to an eye casualty, which sadly means a wait of several hours. I wish my GP was able to prescribe the eye drops . The drops work almost instantly, but I hate having to use medication at the best of times 🤦‍♀️

I am currently trying the heated eye pads, dry eye drops etc….although I’m not convinced that the consultant actually knows what will definitely work. I have a feeling that what suits one person is not necessarily right for another.

Chin up, I hope you find a solution (!) soon.

Fran 😉

I've got dry eyes and I thought it was a menopause thing with everything drying up. I have eye drops prescribed from the doctor. Xailin . When they 're very dry I use an ointment at night too.

hello.

Be sure and get a Bruder mask. You hear in the microwave and then wear it for 10 minutes. It’s very relaxing. Morning and evening. Also be sure you use single dose gel eye drops or try Restasis which is a prescription drug. Also Occusoft makes great single use pads that you clean your eyelids with before using the mask. With the OTC drops you need to do it up to 4X/day

thanks, I use dr Hillary eye masks that you put in the microwave and his eye wipes, and thealoz duo drops, I think they are about the same but I'm still struggling.

I too have dry eyes compounded by eye surgery (cataracts).

I too use the heated compress, then massage the lids after to release any blocked glands. I have also had my tear ducts sealed so any liquid doesn’t literally ‘go down the drain ‘ my eyes do not water like some folk’s do so I need to keep as much moisture there as I can.

I use wrap around sunglasses or clear eye shields if it’s windy.

My consultant prescribed me drops to use during the day (Hylo Forte) and an ointment to use at night or if I have a flare up (Hylo Night).

I take a capsule (1,000) of flax oil twice daily on his advice too.

just to add - my thyroid is fine. I’ve been told to use the drops/ointment before my eyes feel dry as when they do it’s too late !

The 4 times a day is only a guide and unless I’m outside all the time and the air is damp and no breeze I definitely use the drops lot more than 4 times in a day. Once they’re dry the cornea gets sore .

My optician recommended taking a high-strength Omega 3 capsule daily (or Omega 3+6+9 if you prefer) and they do seem to help
