Hi and a Merry Christmas

I’ve hurt my coccyx over a week ago. It felt a bit tender on and off then last week I woke up and it was very painful and still is. Could this have anything to do with osteoporosis of whic I have in my lower spine?

Merry Xmas! Sorry you’ve got a pain in the butt- I live with one, ha, ha! Seriously though, I had the same problem, #s L1-5, T13 probably more higher up, then my coccyx pain kept getting worse so bought a ring cushion to sit on, used Ibuleve gel & usual pain meds Fentanyl patches topped up with Tramadol when extreme.

The agony was worse as I have to sit most of the time but these definitely helped & within a week was bearable. Obviously if you can sit more on your side that would help take pressure off, I can’t .Problem is you never know which bits are broken or just inflamed or bruised. Good luck! X🧑‍🎄

Thanks for the reply. I have multiple thoracic and lumbar vertebrae fractures including from T 10 through to L3. I’m sure it’s my coccyx though. 🙄x

Could you have a SIF from when you damaged your coccyx? I did that and was fobbed off with ‘it’s probably a touch of osteoarthritis’ until I finally had three private MTIs that showed amongst other nasties that I had an SIF.

Hi. What’s a SIF?

I believe SIF stands for Sacral Insufficiency Fractures.

Hi, I have suffered with coccyx pain since a D & C after a miscarriage, 35 years ago. I had my first fracture in 2016 due to osteoporosis, so mine are not connected.

Of course, when you have coccyx pain, it radiates up into the lower back (tingling side of coccyx, feels like sitting on a golf ball) sound familiar? At the beginning nobody, including me, seemed to know if it was coming from higher up my spine and referred or the coccyx, turns out I have a very bent coccyx , and its got knocked out a bit on the D & C and, even at present, I am sitting on a coccyx cushion, I have them everywhere.

Lately, I have had sacro iliac pain also and radiating to my hip, confusing everything. but numerous scans have shown no fracture with me in those places, but I had got a new fracture at L1 in my back which started that pain

I hope yours gets better soon.

I’ve now seen the Dr who checked it over. I’m due my Dexa Scan very soon but it looks like it’s bruised and to keep taking pain killers. It feels a little better now. My iron and magnesium were low ( I knew something wasn’t right) so I’ve been given meds and have after one day, feel great again and have walked just over 10k steps today with no pain.
