Mri results disc bulging arthritis

Hi would anyone be able help with some advice and had a similar mri result

I was sent for a mri due to numbness in my toes and legs I started losing feeling in my left toe in 2016

I had my mri results back 6 days after my mri is this normal?

Mri results showed disc bulges in l4-l-5 and l5-s1 and mild degenerative or arthritis changes

The bulges are causing spinal canal narrowing

This is causing impingement on the nerves on both sides

I am 30 years old I wonder if anyone else had similar results and what happens

My biggest question is will I get my full feeling back in my feet and legs and not just feel numbness

Sorry for the long post

Hope to hear from you all soon

Hi Zoeeee20, I have a disc bulge and spondylitist at l5/s1 plus degenerative changes on my spine. I have numbness and problems walking, standing for any length of time. Finally I am on a waiting list for an operation but it has taken me 5 years and there is only an 80% chance it will improve my symptoms. What has been recommended for you. Usually they will try non surgical methods as a first resort. I did find IDD therapy very helpful and it may work for you as you do

Not have vertebra slippage but it is not on the nhs. It is a modern form of traction that targets the area causing problem. Google it for more info. Best wishes

Hey colly

Thanks for your reply

I lost the feeling in my toe in 2016 and it’s slowly worked it’s way up my legs

Question is will I get my feelings back

Have you?

All that’s been recommend is to see an arthritis specialist also have some nerves study’s next week to see how there responding

I work in a kitchen and this is really making my life hard I’ve continuously got a burning pain on the top of my back and evening driving hurts at times

I’m only 30 so I’m hoping there is something that can be done for me

Yes I have that burning pain at the base of my back and it drives me nuts. Some nights I just can’t sleep and if the sciatica is bad too I just give up. As to whether you will get the feeling back in your big toe I don’t know. It all depends on how soon you get the issue resolved. I had a nerve conduction test which showed changes in my nerve at l5 but even then the nhs consultant fobbed me off. It was only by going private and seeing the top guy in the nhs that I have finally got on a waiting list. My problem seemed to be that I appear to have a generous spinal canal and they put it back onto my ms. I can’t answer your question as until I have the operation I won’t know if my symptoms resolve. I feel for you as my problems started in my late 40s and it’s taken over 10 years to get this far, but if you have no other health conditions I would push hard for a resolution and not be fobbed off. Get your nerve conduction done and take it from there.

I had a bulging disc back in the 80s. when I was in my 30s. I had a pain in my right buttock to begin with which then developed into numbness down my right leg along with pins and needles right down the my ankle and toes. I could stand in the shower and know I was washing my leg but not be able to feel it.

I eventually saw a consultant and had an MRI scan which showed narrowing of the spinal column (which he said was very narrow to begin with )and the bulging disc.

My consultant likened the spinal column to the inside of a biro pen. He didn’t want to operate as I didn’t have any back ache and I could well have ended up with backache after the operation so he and I settled for an epidural injection of steroids.

That worked straight away and things went back to normal. Eventually after a year or so I needed another one which took a lot longer to kick in and which I thought hadn’t worked until after a couple of weeks I realised it had and I haven’t had any since back then.

I got occasional twinges and had physio therapy and eventually a new and excellent physio diagnosed a displaced pelvis, shoved that about, told me to have regular massages and to take up Pilates which I did and have done ever since.

So yes, I won’t say you will definitely get the feeling back but it’s likely that you could well get it back. Fingers crossed that you do.
