I had an MRI scan about 20 years ago after slipping a disc and had the same worries. However, they placed a big pillow under my knees and that made all the difference.
Before you go for a scan, phone up and ask to speak to someone about your concerns. I contacted Siemens, who make most of the machines in NHS hospitals, and they told me they make a large range of cushions to make things more comfortable. But our hospitals don't buy them, although German ones do (Siemens is a German company). So make a fuss. I have had polio, so always take a strong pain killer 20 mins before a scan.
I had a double MRI scan in dec last year , for my hips and my spine, they placed a large type cushion under my knee which did help me , and some support to raise my head,
Managed to get through it even though I could not get off the scanner after and I had a lot of pain for days after, just ring them before hand and explain, good luck !!
Like MetOO- pillows.
I phone before and then explained even with Morphine patch the pain and my 'new spine shape' meant I can not lie on my back.
Took neck pillows and pillows with me for shoulders and under knees. I practiced at home how to get as comfortable as possible with the help of someone else to move me and pillows. Everyone very helpful and it was booked for a time when I was most mobile.
Good luck
