My gp is suggesting I have an annual infusion of zelondronic acid and I wondered if I could find out how others have got on with this. I take methotrexate so wondered if it would be safe to be on both? I didn’t want to take bisphosphonates orally due to stomach problems but am still afraid of another fracture, having broken my ankle in two places earlier this year. Any advice welcomed.

I had an infusion in April, and so far signs are good. First, my immune system is in free-fall after cancer treatment, but I've had no nasty reaction from this. And second, my Rheumatologist says tests show it's working. We shall see!
I'm having my 3rd infusion tomorrow, 18/12/2019 drink lots of water before and during the infusion. If you get any bone aches afterwards, Ibuprofen gel helps. it shouldn't last too long. Mine only lasted 5 days then went away. Will be interested to know what choices I'll be given afterwards. I'm also on MTX and Leflunomide. All the best.
Oh thank you for that. Is it an annual infusion? I understand you can have it for three years and then a rest. I wonder if it stays in your system. Will you be due for a dexa scan soon ? Much appreciate your reply.
It is an annual infusion and you might be asked to change to another drug after 3 years, carry on with it, or given a drug holiday. I don't know if I will be offered a DEXA, I hope so, as I want to know if my fractures are healed or if I have additional ones.

I would want to know if bmd had improved too. Good luck with your results.
Zelondronic Acid - Bland Name Reclast -- psses the stomach because it is an infusion into the bloodstream.
Get all your teeth fixed before you take it. Pull any wisdom teeth that might be a problem in the future. A rare side effect cause serious problems with your jaw bone.
The Oral surgeon who pulled my wisdom tooth said that the bone in the jaw can die, time to grow new bone in the jaw.
I had heard about that. Thanks for info tho.
