my biggest problem is the pain whilst walking. I have polymyalgia too but don’t think it’s this. It’s taking over my life I cry most days now. I want cortosteriod injected. Anyone got any opinions or advice. I’m waiting noon scan. Iv had X-rays no change in few years. I had 4 vertebrae fracture thst thru have said are stable. I don’t really know what’s causing pain. I take paracetamol and low dose oxycodone as and when it becomes unbearable. I’m on predesilone currently 6.5. 2 years polymyalgia. Please please help.

So sorry that you're in so much pain, which I know can be totally debilitating. Have you been seen at the Pain Clinic? If not, you could ask for a referral there. I think they can ask your GP to prescribe stronger painkillers and also have other treatments on offer.
well when I found out through xray that my terrible back pain was caused by fractures I kept taking the tablets and adjusted what I did so as to avoid more, including stopping driving and travelling, bending, carrying etc as much as possible. I started watching diet more carefully and also doing functional Pilates with a very knowledgable instructor. By early this year I felt that they had healed but still had awful back ache, just from standing, walking, anything. I raided my savings and ordered a Marodyne LIV device (3-4 months wait). In the meantime I consulted a very good established medical herbalist about inflammation related to another condition. A few months on her diet and taking her herbal medicines improved all my body inflammation including my back. I feel 80% better than I did a year ago.
that’s great I’m gonna do fast 800 diet see if I can knock a few pounds off. I think even half a stone may help. Painkillers don’t take away just take edge off so I’m trying to get cortisone steroid injection it’s dragging me down No one seems to appreciate how painful it can be Unless like yourself have experienced Thanks gor reply Valerie
Thanks V, so happy the herbs and diet has had such a positive affect. I live in Los Angeles. What kind of Dr should I look for? I would like to eliminate inflammation and eat a good diet for stronger bones. Thanks. M
I think its worth looking for a really well qualified Medical Herbalist - who will have a good knowledge of the body, illness, herbs and drug interactions etc. I decided to look for a long established clinic - mine had 100 years of experience!
I do feel your pain, I have the same! 6 vertebral #s T13-S5, so the whole of my lower back. I too feel they must be healed by now but the pain is still awful, unable to stand or walk for more than a few mins. Am on Fentanyl patches 12mcg ( was up to 50mcg but lost 3 stones re no appetite, nausea etc., so weaned myself down to lowest dose.)
Needed to look after myself so tried Baclofen, for muscle spasms, so could stand long enough for shower- made no difference so just suffer it till back starts screaming. Only thing that calms it down is to sit with legs up, so banana shape, ( sleep like this too) for a while then have another go. I do things in bits and eventually get stuff done.
First time in ages today had to take a Tramadol as top up, had been doing too much. I can only assume pain just from damage done and further irritation when I push it. Bought a Rollator as aiming to walk down garden this year ( 2 years later) but my legs went due to M.E after 1/2 way but shall try again if it ever stops raining.!
I guess I've just accepted my limitations, work round it best I can. You need to get your pain meds sorted to keep the worst at bay, take top up when you must, pace yourself and try not to get upset. Luckily I have a great sense of humour and can laugh about the state I'm in, but yes, of course it's frustrating and annoying when you can't do what you used to do. Maybe talking to GP or helpline will help you deal with it positively? Good luck. 🤞🤗
you are not alone. The spinal fractures from osteoporosis can involve nerve damage and muscle fatigue. Walking in shorter intervals, rest, ice, heat, and your own strategies can be your best bet. I feel for you, mine is self managed since 2016, T 6 - T 12 compression fractures. Diet, stress and exercise to remain upright!! 💕
ha ha, did you mean ' de- stress'? Though it is very stressful too. Kyphosis got me 6 " shorter - also annoying as can 't reach things now. I suppose it depends where your # s are. 🤨 Also find heat vest invaluable, got it on now as freezing and cheaper than heating! Where's spring? 🤷♀️
