Muscle spasms ?

Hi Jdry, Yes I have had lots of episodes of this and very unpleasant and debilating it is too. Seems to take ages to get back to any kind of normality. I try to exercise as much as possible pain permitting. Using a combination of ice packs and heat help with a bit of pain relief. I found pilates was very good until I overdid it! I have just bought myself an ergo metric chair that helps a lot. Before I was sitting in a comfy squishy leather armchair which allowed my muscles to kind of please them selves, now I have more support which seems to be helping a lot. (Not cheap though)
I also get a lot of pain in my hip and down my leg which I have been told is my pitiformus going into spasm so I do exercise for that too. I have had 5 vertebra fractures over the years all impact injury, my dexa score was 1.5 so not too bad but do take calcium and watch my diet. Also lost wait which also helped. Apart from this just try to do as much as I can when I can, oh yes and a real no no is stress, tryto avoid. Still waiting for someone to wave a magic wand for that!
Take care and keep on going .
X
I had muscle spasms every night for years long before osteoporosis , before a new doctor put me on ropinerole (also given for Parkinson’s). If I miss it I am in for a totally sleepless night. It is horrible.
Hi Jdry. I too suffered muscle spasms and could get no explanation, guidance or advice from my GP. For weeks on end the muscles either side of my spine were rigid. It was very painful and I could never get comfortable. I used ice and heat which helped but didn't resolve the problem. Undertaking my own internet research I came to the conclusion it could be symptomatic of a Magnesium deficiency. I came across Transdermal Magnesium which provided some relief immediately. After a week of daily baths in Epsom Salts and thrice daily magnesium sprays I had total relief. I also started to take oral Magnesium and Potassium supplementation. I haven't had the spasms for over 3 years. Currently I have an Epsom soak approximately once a week. I use the Magnesium spray occasionally if the pain from spinal arthritis is bad and I continue routinely to take oral magnesium. If I miss this and the potassium that I also take daily I usually get cramps which subside when I restart the potassium. I guess I have sufficient Magnesium in my system now to miss the odd day without return of cramping symptoms. The Magnesium spray can be bought from many chemists and health shops. Good luck. If you try it perhaps you would let us know if it works for you too.
