It isn't only the women who refuse to take the bone meds. When it was discovered that I had an osteoporotic left femur neck (T= -3.5)I was ordered by my doctor to take Alendronic Acid because there was no choice. At that stage I knew nothing about osteoporosis and believed that the Dr knew what he was talking about. I went on to read at length about the condition and the drugs and nutrients involved. It became immediately obvious that the last ditch medication had been given first and no real attempt was made to determine the cause or what was missing from my diet and lifestyle. I already visited a gym three times a week and I just needed to adjust the types of exercise to be on the right track. I also make sure that i get around 20 different nutrients daily, some in food and some as supplements. After 5 months of bisphosphonates, I stopped and have never touched them since. I hope tp have a repeat dexascan in late September/early october which will be one year after diagnosis, and hopefully I shall find out whether I have done the right thing.
