When my doc friend was in medical school back in medieval times; he said we were told 100 plus your age over 90 or below was normal and you shouldn't lower it more than less than that because then the people would have side effects and symptoms and get dizzy and all the rest of it somehow over the years as far as I can see without any actual evidence they change that to everybody needs to be 120 over 80,just a thought i wonder if the drug companies lower it to get more customers,as if

I don't believe that doctors prescribe blood pressure drugs unnecessarily. There are very real consequences involved in having a consistently raised blood pressure - left ventricular hypertrophy is one and this can result in eventual heart failure. Another is the effect that high blood pressure can have on kidneys.

Yes, many antihypertensives do cause side effects. I tried several two years ago and had side effects from each of them, to a greater or lesser extent, and the first few months were incredibly difficult for me but I persevered because I knew I had to. I no longer have side effects and feel very well on the two meds that I take.

I would prefer not to have to take these meds but, for me, that is not an option because without them my blood pressure would still be high and I don't want to have to face the possible consequences of that.

We are all individuals and will have different views.

120/80 no matter what your age is. The higher values are ‘old school’ thinking and been discarded due to the high incidence of heart attack and stroke at those higher BP levels.

so you read that have you lol, well at 20 years old that would be ok,for a older person with say 150/90 no benefit to bringing it down, only dizziness and falls,id rather live healthy in older age with good bp pumping to my brain than living like zombie, dont get me wrong when i was on bp drugs it got down to 115/80 with 2 drugs. felt awful. there is a new drug on trial, aspirim,bp and statin combined, now mention aspirin to your doc they have a fit, no idea as it works perfect to bring bp down and feel good if u dont get bleeding etc,bp drugs ok for some, statins a lifetime of future joint problems.funny how they putting aspirin in now, 81 mg aspirin a day not the 325 one or even half a baby aspirin, better than bp pill for myself, took it for 35 years till doc advised me not to,then i got the virus bp shot up,depression, anxiety followed, never again would i take a bp drug or a statin, if your doc told most to jump in the canal for health they would do it regular, instead of learning lol, i also read aspirin the only drug to extend your life so ill go for that and diet/exercise.

i have been taking meds for couple months now. Im on second one now as first one was awful. Feel terrible on this one now after only 2 weeks. I feel as if my neck is swollen and pulse beating faster. Did u ever experience this.? I am overweight but iv started walking eating well and living a much better lifestyle and can feel my weight going down. I feel like i need to come of these meds and continue being healthy but people are telling me it would be very dangerous. Did you just stop your meds suddenly? I know everyone is different and in general we should listen to our doctors Im just getting as many opinions and other peoples experiences as I can. Life at tge minute is badly affected.

i had every bad side effects you could think off, nothing escaped me even gave me anxiety/depression,insomnia, after a year of feeling like death, i knew i would die on then, so even got suicidal thoughts , so for me it was either stop them and take the risk or id have died one way or the other, i cut them in half for a week, then every other day for a week, then every 2 days for a week then off them, started walking not been out of house for months and not slept for more than 1 hour a night for a year, not even took bp now for 18 months and not going to, pulse on them was erratic , its took 18 months to nearly feel normal, still get bouts of insomnia never sleep more than 4 hours some night s none but at least i feel well, best thing i did, what is or was your bp when they put you on them, listen to your body,if u feel ill they no use,who wants to live like that.you only been on them a bit so wont take as long to feel well, just eat healthy and walk.

I cant remember the top number when first started meds but bottom number was 90 ish. Meds got it down to 80 but I felt so ill. Started new meds 2 weeks ago. Last week bottom number shot up to 100 but id a very stressful week. I checked it with my own monitor this evening and it was back down to 84. Felt really ill last night and today i was frightened while driving as I felt so strange. I really dont want to go on like this. Its a nightmare.

yes i got that a lot, strange feelings, you dont want them anything under 100 ok, and i got out of hospital at 180/95 no problem, after having a virus, whats the top number , the more u check the worst mine went, i do slow breathing 4 in 6 out 15 mins a day, last time i checked my bp it was 165/95 2 years ago,its been in160/90 range for 20 years no problem without pills, im 74 in a couple of months, walk 10 miles a day in 3 lots, take half a baby aspirin a day, i use to take a full baby aspirin when younger, dont believe the 120/80 brigade you end up ill as you age, u feel ill no blood to your brain etc.how old are u and what bp pills u on
