Hair loss from BP meds

Anybody else dealing with loss of hair as a side effect from their BP meds? My Dr. keeps switching from one medication to another but my hair keeps coming out. Have have thyroid test done and was normal. Dermatologist can find no reason for my hair loss. Do believe the stress of the situation is increasing my BP and probably contributing to the hair loss. 😢 Want to take the medication but want to have hair on my head. I’m 70 but have always had thick hair even though on Amlodipine 5 mg for over 30 years. However, about a year ago, the dosage was no longer doing its job. Dr. Increased it to 10 mg & although my BP came down to normal ranges but my feet and ankles were so swollen that I could hardly walk. He switched meds again to Losartan & the hair loss began. Constant monitoring of BP, changing of meds and doctor visits every 4 weeks with increased hair loss. Also, have always had a case of mild white coat syndrome which now skyrocketed. Might have to just bite the bullet and wear a wig. Doesn’t seem to be a BP meds for me that will leave my hair alone. Also, I have been vegan for over 5 years & eat a plant based diet. I exercise and have no weight issues. Thanks for letting me vent.

Just to,say, Happybeat, that I can offer you nothing except my sympathy. And, I had cancer eight years ago and with chemo making my hair fall out I wore a wig. I decided that a wig would be fun and I enjoyed it for about eight months until my hair gradually came back.

The same thing happened to me with Amlodipine after taking it a few years, and on 5mg.

For me hair loss is a serious issue and I have lost quite a bit, but in my case, it may be the anti-coagulants for atrial fibrillation. I have asked to go to the blood pressure clinic where hopefully there is a specialist there that can put me on some sort of regime for high blood pressure that is compatible with the arrhythmia medication I have to take. I am waiting for an appointment date.

A GP does not have the training for certain cases, and trial and error can result in frustration. I suggest you ask to see a blood pressure specialist.

My cardiologist and BP expert prefers to prescribe a lower dose of mixed BP meds (rather than a single higher dose medication) taken am and pm , hence losartan in the morning and 5mg amlodipine in the evening.Does work well for me with no hair issues.
