I am in a similar position as yourself.I was diagnosed by three hospitals, ESA and pip as having walking problems, a recent stay in the Royal said that I am deconditioned, I am totally brassed off at this as for the past four visits stay in`s I was assessed as having walking difficulties by the Royal they also tabooed my wrist which has had major operation work and my sleep apnoea.

But I am not letting them away with this as I will be shouting from the highest tree SO YOU DON`T LIKE OLD FOLKS.. Well maybe from a stool anyway!!

Thank you very much for reply. Shouting is not good for me. I like to speak with people and pray God

It's no wonder that you are feeling sad, you seem totally obsessed by what you think are your health problems, which you may or may not have. Perhaps you would be better to be working on cheering yourself up if you possibly can and that would enable members here to maybe help you. Although this group is basically to discuss health matters it is accepted that mental problems can often be a root cause. Why not tell them something about yourself like what hobbies you have, what your family circumstances are, how you spend your free time, do you have a job, about anything in fact but your health. Sometimes having friends that understand your difficulties can be better than even the best of medicines.

No need to thank me it's what we do for each other on here. Just tell us about yourself like I asked. When we are very sad we do walk with shoulders dropped and hunched and head down, find it difficult. When cheerful, head up shoulders back spring in our step, smile on our face. Think about good things, not whether you have got some illness which you might not even have. People will listen better to what you have to say if you adopt a positive attitude. Don & Puss xx

I totally agree Don. Life shouldn't be all doom and gloom but rejoicing at what we can achieve. Dwelling on things wont help especially if they may not exist. Causes anxiety and this can be sorted .Positivity is the way forward Smile and the World smiles back.xxSheila 👍🙌🌞💕

Snap......my knees, legs , feet feel so painful and weak along with breathlessness . Just fetched the wheely bin in and shattered . Then I panic. I had a strange ‘ bug ‘ last week as did my daughter , but I felt rough before . Is it Long Covid or the after effects the stress of the whole pandemic issue or de conditioning through lack of exercise, and not meeting people, even driving to the shops .

Your gp saying it’s not physical when you feel so weak is not good enough and would make me feel worse.

I am a fan of meditation and yoga, but I admit I have let these slip recently . I am practicing walking back and forwards around my house and counting laps.....dread to think what my neighbours think, but they have been inside for ages too.....and not too well.

So you are not alone , this last year has been so difficult .

I am considering asking for some help with the panic.

Can you start baby steps to try and feel better ....gentle seated exercise just a few minutes to start , sit by an open window or door to get fresh air , listen to the birds .

The BLF have good ideas on their website , and if you need to talk to someone , there is a helpline for UK residents in office hours 03000 030 555.

And consult a health professional again and ask their advice on how to feel better.

Best wishes and keep in touch .

I think perhaps a referral to a psychologist could be of benefit, perhaps some counselling they offer may help you, rather than the mind set that you have a condition clinicians have investigated and ruled out.

Members have given you very good advice/ strategies, you now have to try take positive steps going forward.

All credit to this wonderful forum.

Wishing you well.

Speaking to a counsellor is a special type of conversation. I have a great support network, but when an incident of severe bullying left me back in severe depression for three days 19 months ago, I needed a counsellor's special talking skills to help me work through it.

I suffered a lot from depression when younger. When I reached my rock bottom and decided I didn't want to be like that any more, I joined a group of people who had used a 24 hour recovery program to get better. One of their books said 'if you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get better, then you are ready to take certain steps.' I was willing to go to any length to get better, so I started doing the things they suggested, and I did get better, like them.

Recovery from depression needs a course of action, not just awareness. Our replies can give you all the awareness in the world, but until you decide to start taking the action, you won't change.

Wishing you all the best. Try writing down things that you are grateful for, to start.

I think its not depression because I feel weak and have problems with walking. I thought that it is depression and anxiety which makes me weak tired sleepy and smoked. It was confusing me. But when I noticed that I have problems with walking I started to understand that is something other. And because I was previuosly diagnosed with it doctors keep telling that it is depression and does not help me. Even my family believe what they say. I am very veak and. dont know how long will I live. And it makes me sad.

The support group I belong to has a saying, insanity is keeping on doing the same thing and expecting the outcome to be different. I used to blame others for my situation. Then people encouraged me to forget about others, to take my life into my own hands, and to do something positive every day to improve my own situation. That changed my life.

What I don't understand about your reply, is that you seem to be saying, you won't see a counsellor because you have problems walking.

I have problems with walking. I have had them since a road accident in 1977. I have had to learn to walk again 4 times following operations. When you don't use your muscles much for any length of time, it always hurts to start moving again. I just pushed gently through the soreness, doing a bit more each day, until I built up my strength again.

For instance, 5 months after my knee replacement operation in 2005, I went camping in Scotland to get the muscles working properly, despite some nerve damage caused after the operation. There's nothing like living in a tent with a big dog and having to fetch your food, fuel and water, to get the body moving again. I had the will and drive to get better.

You need to find the will and the drive to get better. A counsellor would be able to help you find that. All the best.

Well I wouldn't be 'very sad' to be told I didn't have lung problems, in fact I would be so overjoyed I would be shouting it from the rooftops!

If you have had all the tests and nothing has been found then it is probably health anxiety instead. This is very common and you need to seek treatment from your doctor for it.

Anxiety can cause all sorts of physical symptoms including all those you have talked about. If you google it you will realise this.

Many ears ago I was diagnosed with deoresion . And it confussed me. I thought that it is depression which makes me tired and weak and anxious and sleepy. And I smoked. When I feld bad in the place I was wisiting I remember that pkace and started to avoid to go to those places. And every time it was something like anxiety but it was caused by smokind and breathing problem. When I started to notice problems with walking I started little bit to understand that it is not anxiety.I dont understand about the test but they dont show. Based on my understanding I am very ill.

hypercat54 profile image
hypercat54 in reply to Sandrute2

Those who suffer from health anxiety are always convinced they are very ill and are dying as they never believe doctors and go for endless tests. They can be told a thousand times they are fine but can't believe it.

The way forward is to start tacking your anxiety/depression and getting to the root of the issues. What are you doing to tackle this? Are you having any therapy? If not I would advise you to try and get some.

My opinion it is not good to say to person who is very veak to walk to say that it is caused by depression anxiety. I thought anxiety and depression makes me tired weak and sleepy. I did not understand that I have breathing problems. It is my mistake too. I last time visited doctors 20 years ago and recently started with one year.. I thought that it is depression and lived with this old understanding. And smoked. But when I stated to notice big walking problems I started to understand that it is something different. Now I know it is because smoking. And is my big mistake too. I had to visit doctors every two or 3 years. I did not like to go to psychiatrists too.And now I am scared to go to psychiatrist too because of side effect and pain caused by treatment. I have problems with walking and this madication made me to walk. I could not stay in one place I was moving and moving and too much pain. I was given neuroleptic drug. I thought I will die.Is possible that if I will visit them they will see that it is mistake. That it is nt in my head that I am realy weak. My lungs and hart are not good I am very sad about my walking. I dont know how long will I live and I am scared of life and death.

You can keep going back to the same doctor. The doctor has told you its not your lungs or heart, smoking only affects walking if smoking has also affected /damaged the lungs and heart. So its not your lungs or heart, (you have been informed of this) it will be something else. Your doctor has suggested its a mental health issue so this is the area to focus on for your wellness.

Which country are you residing in? I ask this because then information from local sources can be presented to you.

You have had it confirmed its NOT COPD or any other lung issue.

So I do think unless you take that on board and move in the direction that may help you things will not change.

Regarding being scared of life of death. You will be able to get help with that fear if you choose to do anything to help yourself.

If your problems are indeed all in your head they are still problems. Perhaps counselling would help.

HiJust been looking back at some of your posts... you seem to suffer with huge anxiety regarding lung disease caused by smoking if I'm correct?

If a previous smoker its understandable you may feel some guilt and paranoia around this. However you have recieved a whole variety of tests which are normal so take that as a huge huge positive outcome 🙂.

Lung disease is debilitating, unpredictable and frightening for many not to mention the horrific side affects of many drugs to help keep them alive.

So respiratory illness you don't have, however anxiety can cause similar feelings of asthma type symptoms (which aren't) but still need addressing.

I think if you were my friend or family I would seriously be helping you to make an appointment with gp but for mental health not requesting breathing tests.

There are online cbt and anxiety courses you can do and lots of apps like headspace and calms to help yourself. Good luck x

Oh it is hard when it feels like we are not being heard. That doesn’t happen in this group and the advice given is evidence of that. Sometimes even small steps are daunting however, experiencing breathlessness can be alarming no matter the cause. Have a look at the boot camp approach taken by Noah Greenspan at the Pulmonary Wellness Foundation. The little steps may help and give you confidence to explore further avenues.

Best wishes to you.

Today I understand that it is my big mistake. I had to visit doctors very often and not smoke. But I remember when I was about 30 I went to cardiologist and to I have something with my heart she made a echoskopy and told me that everything is ok. I smoked 15 years and echo did not show damage of hearth. The doctor just prescribed me medicines. My opinion she could ask me if I smoke and to explain me that is because smoking. I did not think that it was breathing problems.
