That was an interesting read. My old consultant preferred Amoxicilin but my latest consultant prefers Doxicillin. Its useful to read these findings. Thanks

I must say that I prefer Doxycycline myself .

Simply because Doxycycline was the one to make me better after 3 months of being ill and trying different ones including Amoxycillin.

Do you think both can behave differently to individual people? Both are obviously good but apparently the Amoxicillin is the strongest.

Yes, It will be up to you as to which is more suitable , people react differently to different medications, it ,a sort of trial and error situation , At the end of the day it will be the doctor who prescribes whichever he thinks is best ,all you can do is suggest your preferance for one. A sputum test, also known as a sputum culture, is a test that your doctor may order when you have a respiratory tract infection or other lung-related disorder to determine what is growing in the lungs.

Thanks.

The combination drug that they are talking about is what we know as co amoxiclav. It superseded amoxicillin as a broad spectrum antibiotic. This study is looking again at the efficacy of both drugs. It is mainly used against haemophyllus. Neither of them are effective against pseudomonas which many of us lungies have as a constant companion.Doxy is a completely different antibiotic. It is somewhat effective against pseudomonas although not so much as ciproxen.

I hope that helped a bit.

Definitely amoxicillin for me as a rescue meds although been given doxycycline on occasion it doesn't seem to agree with me. I had a culture done for my bronchiectasis flare up and pneumonia, it came back that I grew haemophilis influenza strain and amoxicillin was the best one to get rid of the bugs

Amoxicillin never works for me. However, Co Amoxiclav does.

Im the same Aingeful. But have you ever been prescribed 750 Amoxicillin? The highest Ive ever been given is 500. But the co-amoxiclav doesnt work very well either now, and when I have a flare-up I generally have to go in for IV tazocin.

Luckily Ive not had an exacerbation for 3 years but I must be overdue for one now :(
