Sharon has come home tonight with some bad news. After the nursing home has been Covid-19 free for 5 weeks, two residents have been tested as positive, all the staff have been tested as negative. One of them had a knee operation and his Consultant passed the infection on to him as well as to his other patients. Sharon has been attending to both of the infected residents today.
It has been 91 days since my fever ended, Sharon is at 95 days since recovering from the infection. So this is going to be a test to whether our immunity have lasted. Antibodies are reported as only lasting 2 to 3 months. Hoping the T cells are going to do their job now. The problem is we will never know if she has picked up the virus or not, unless we both become infected again. Previously we were okay as that was for only a month or two after we had recovered, any antibodies would have still been active in that time.
It was always on the cards that this would happen, the same as for the first time round. Although I hope not, it might keep happening from time to time as well. This has now put paid to the residents being allowed to see family members again, socially distanced of course.

Fingers and toes crossed, makes you both a test case for the rest of us, unfair though that is, will give us an idea of the likely usefulness of a vaccine.
Sorry to read this 2greys for many reasons. I haven’t yet read of anyone getting it twice (but of course could mean I may have missed it) so hopefully you are immune to it, I really hope so. All the best Carole x
It just goes to show hiw very much this virus is still with us.
The watch and wait game us very hard yo play so i feel for you both... although i havent heard to people getting it twice ...so dont you both go and make medical history.
What a bugger.....I oh so hope you guys are ok and of course it all will work out fine. But yes this virus is as sneaky as. I am assuming you didn't end up in hospital, which would be a blessing, But just getting the virus if your lungs were not that good to begin with, well I am amazed!! So that to me is interesting. I haven't been following your journey, so I am not up to date apart from this post I am replying to. I do hope all the aged care residents are ok too. Best wishes to you 2greys and to Sharon. Yes, it is the nursing home residents that I feel sorry for. Just as they were able to have a visitor after all this time, they are back into lockdown. Their disappointment must be terrible.
Hi 2 grey's me and my wife had covid in march fairly bad we were tested for antibodies in july and,still had strong show of anti bodies that's 4 months on do you should be ok unfortunately I'm still dealing with after effects chest pain breathlessness etc
That is very good news. I still get occasional bouts of fatigue. My breathing is still not as good as it should be, but that may be because I have stopped working.
OMG this isn't fair but COVID-19 is constantly changing and we're going to be at it's mercy until or if a vaccine is found. I feel for both of you and sincerely hope you don't come face to face with this unforgiving virus yet again. 🐿🌈

Oh no, that is so hard to take after all you two have been through. All, I can say is to try and be as strong and positive as you can. You've faced many difficult times and you are going to be tested yet again. Keep strong, keep positive, eat properly and keep on top of things just like you always do. Dreadful as it is you are in a unique position 2greys. We will all be taking a deep breath and hoping things go well with a happy ending.

It is not a surprise or shock and one I have been mentally prepared for. I am not going to be blasé about it as I know my immune system is theoretically still in a weakened state from having cancer and of course still have the other co-morbidities, I will still be taking precautions. Having already defeated it once I have to believe that both antibodies and T cells have been produced. I did not exactly have a mild case with 8 days of high fever, I only escaped being admitted by the skin of my teeth and stubbornness, so I should have produced enough protection. So I will still continue the same as always.
A good job I was already committed to staying at home as well, so no disappointment for me on the 1st of August.
Fingers crossed. So far there hasn't been any confirmed re-infections yet so hopefully that means the immune system is still good even after the antibodies have waned.
Depends on your t cells and they a have been alerted before so should respond again quickly ? if necessary. how about the other people in care home? Will Sharon be going in or not. Should try to avoid heavier load of infective particles,
The staff were all tested as negative on Wed last week and the two residents as positive, at the same time. She goes back to work tomorrow after the weekend off. In the dark until then, hopefully if there have been no further cases after 2 weeks then we will all be in the clear, residents, staff and their families. Yet another waiting game to play.
I am pretty certain we will be okay, all the recent research I have read points to our immunity being real. I think all the doubters are still way behind with their facts and just want to cover their behinds.
My mum got an email today informing her that a member of staff at her sister's care home had tested positive for the virus. All residents must stay in their rooms and there'll be no communal dining or other activities until the end of August. Also no visitors. A couple of months ago two residents had tested positive for the virus. Hopefully there will be some kind of immunity among the residents and other staff. I hope you and Sharon are doing ok.
So far so good, personally, from what I have read, having the T cells is a lot more important than just having antibodies alone. T cells control B cells, which in turn make the antibodies which may fade away in time. It appears that the T cells may last 17 years plus
Hopefully your Aunt's home have it contained, that seems standard protocol in nursing homes, the problem is the staff adhering to best practice with using their PPE.
