Researchers identify marker that may predict whether lung cancer likely to spread.
Lung cancer is the most common cancer and cause of cancer-related death in men and women worldwide. More than 50% of patients diagnosed with lung cancer die within 1 year of diagnosis, and the 5-year survival rate is less than 19%. Non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most prevalent form of lung cancer, and most patients with NSCLC have metastatic disease at their initial diagnosis. However, stage II to III NSCLC tumors are heterogeneous, and patients with the same disease stage can often have very different treatment outcomes.
