James Brokenshire MP RIP

For those of us who lament our actions or situation in dealing with lung disease spare a thought for James Brokenshire MP, his wife and young family. James was a non smoker who passed away at 53 from lung cancer yesterday.

He made his diagnosis public at an early stage and achieved a lot in his life.

RIP James.

My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Tobacco use is down but lung cancer has not decreased in comparison. 40% of those diagnosed today do not smoke, half of that group quit over 15 years ago.

If you have a cold or pneumonia that doesn’t get better, is you have unexplained weight loss or a new, persistent cough, get it checked out.

Often its not the 1st cancer, it can have started somewhere else sometimes years before it appears in the lungs. P

Lung cancer death rates declined by 51% from 1990 to 2017 among men and 26% from 2002 to 2017 among women. From 2013 to 2017, the rates of new lung cancer cases dropped by 5% per year in men and 4% per year in women.

Like my mum who never drank or smoked in her life. Bowel cancer treated early and cleared had metastasised years later to her lungs then her brain. Mind you she was 83.

It's terribly sad always when this happens but particularly to younger people with children

Whilst having a pity party in the early hours of wakeful bone lesion pain and difficulty breathing I thought of this young man who was so talented and had so much to live for and felt ashamed of myself.Thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and friends.
