A newly-discovered part of our immune system could be harnessed to treat all cancers, say scientists. The Cardiff University team discovered a method of killing prostate, breast, lung and other cancers in lab tests. The findings, published in Nature Immunology, have not been tested in patients, but the researchers say they have "enormous potential".
Experts said that although the work was still at an early stage, it was very exciting.
I read this. It sounds very promising. I know that my treatment for RA focuses on one of the proteins in the immune system and blocks it that way. Science is so fascinating.
I saw a programme on BBC2 very recently where Leukemia patients recently undertook a trial using t cell technology to target specific cancers, sadly quite a few of the patients developed serious respiratory illnesses and had to stop and consequently died later, though for one of the younger patients he initially went into remission whereas other patients have been in remission for some time now.this was probably the forerunner to what the cardiff team are now researching?
