Hi I've got hypersensitivity pneumonitis with fibrosis. I've been diagnosed for 3 years now. But have suffered in the winter for a long time. Does anyone know of any tips to help me manage when I am outside?

Not at the moment, I find it much harder to breathe outside when it's co ld. I can manage inside.

Hi Almaz65, Flu shot, pneumonia shot, wear a mask when shopping or in crowds (forget vanity, it's our lives,) carry antibacterial for use when away from home (soap and warm H2o always best when available) Vit C, Vit D3. Best to you for a good winter. J.

1) Invest in a Buff. It's a very fine knit snood. Wear around the neck for warmth and pull up over nose and mouth when stepping outside. They are utterly brilliant. Mine are fine merino wool as I don't like synthetic fibres. I get child size, I've a small frame and the adult size falls down. They wash n dry quickly and are treated so the breathing moisture is wicked away. As well as keeping the cold air out of your lungs they help to keep germs out.

2) as above take extra Vitamins D3 and C - both cheap in UK. I buy effervescent Vit C 1000mg, I'll be drinking loads today because I've developed a sore throat so they'll boost my immune system to fight bugs....also an antiseptic throat spray.

3) close your mouth whilst out (tricky if you're a chatterbox)! The air warms better before hitting the lungs and the fine hairs in nasal passages help filter.

4) invest in Vicks Cold and Flu Defence to use before outings or in public. Contains an anti viral.

Hope this helps you. Many many of us use the above to help stay infection free, saving us from further lung damage (I know, sounds obsessive but needs must).

Good luck, P

Thanks very much , I will invest in those items, I do worry about getting infections, but I am trying not to get obsessive about it...but as you say needs must. Best wishes
