Low oxygen seats at night

Does anyone out there know the answer- is it normal for oxygen sats to drop to mid 80's at night? I've been waking up in the early hours for ages so started to check my sats- around the mid 80's- rises pretty quickly to healthy 90's when I sit up and move about. Then I can usually get back to sleep. I am not gasping for breath, but can be a bit dizzy and stumble about a bit- not drunk- hoho! I have hypersensitivity pneumonitis (seems to be under control) and recently diagnosed asthma (peak flow is 140/60 on waking- max is 230/250- on a fabulous day!). Thanks.

Hi goat-lady,

I had very similar symptoms earlier this year after I caught a chest infection and then spending time in hospital. I was like it for about three weeks until I saw my consultant again. He put me on a Forstair 100/6 inhaler which sorted the problem out very quickly.

Regards

Colin

Thanks very much. I'll be seeing the consultant in the new year. I have real problems with long acting and combined inhalers but haven't tried that one- at least recently! Hope you keep well. Ta.

Saw my GP on other matters but mentioned my odd mix of inhalers (a hypersensitivity pneumonitis legacy)-recommended seeing the asthma nurse -appt in mid Dec. Will ask about Fostair-as I defo haven't tried that one. Ta.

Some people’s oxygen levels drop below normal during sleep. However if like me it drops below 85 then I am on 1lpm of oxygen during the night. Might pay to ask for an overnight oxygen check. Good luck

Thanks - not on oxygen at the moment-really hoping it doesn't come to that. Thanks.

Yep! I'm the very same as my O2 drops at night when I am asleep so my Consultant said it was fine for me to keep the "nose hose" on 24/7 if necessary and I've found it if nothing else, acting as a "prop"and I don't alter my flow ,3ltrs/min,all done under strict medical supervision and daily records of my O2 levels. See what your Consultant says as we are all so very different. Good luck.
