Goodbye old friend.

It's sitting on my wheelie bin

Hoping not to go.

Alas I think it's time has come,

But it's causing me much woe.

We've travelled many miles together,

Can't remember where it's from.

Probably from some seaside town

When strolling down the prom.

It's kept the sun from harming me

Where I used to have some hair.

It's been raised to many ladies

And it's that which caused the wear.

It sacrificed itself it could be said

For a mannerism long since gone.

And my new hat which I've since bought

Will now stay firmly on.

It really does look quite threadbare

that thing that used to cover hair

With new hat you will look quite a toff

but with your charm Don you'll pull it off

farewell to your trusty friend................Ski's and Scruffs x

Funny but poignant too . I find it difficult to throw out old items when they have good memories even when I know they’re past their best . Maybe I’m thinking they’re a bit like me 😊

Yes looked like Midge had a go at it! 😃It was indeed time for a new one which you can raise to many ladies I am sure..

There is nothing nicer than seeing a gentleman raise his cap or hat to a lady. Well done don.

Seeing a hat like that reminds me of friends sat in deckchairs in the back garden, homemade lemonade to hand, light breeze in the air. Bliss.

The gentleman in our village who always doffed his hat to me has died. I shall miss him. He reminded me of my grandfather.

I did buy one last year when I was in Scarborough and posted a little poem about it. I posted under a different name at the time which has now become 'Hidden' so I'll repeat it here just to complete the hat saga. At the time I unjustly thought that Midge was the culprit.

I know that Midge has looked at me

When I was wearing my hat.

And wondered why I wore on my head

Such a tasty morsel as that.

And so it was that my straw hat

Had a hole getting bigger and bigger

Until it finally reached the stage

Where people began to snigger.

So Scarborough is the place to go

To get a hat with style.

A line of shops down Foreshore Street

That must stretch for a mile.

And there it was looking just the job

I said you must be mine.

A bit expensive I thought

At four pounds ninety-nine! (Well I am in Yorkshire.)

Maybe the best ever! Send this artifact to me. I could get at least another year or two out of it. :)

I would, but I believe you would send it at incredible costs considering it would travel to the states across the pond. :)

But many thanks indeed.
