Copd and depression

Rgc1 I have copd and now I am quitting cigarettes,it has been a week and I can’t leave my apartment I fell totally depressed,The anxiety is off the charts when will the nicotine leave me be I need help any help

Well done for what you have achieved so far. I think the anxiety and depression will improve as your body and mind detox. Keep going one day at a time and you will get thear. Giving up smoking is the most posative thing you can do to take controll. Good luck

I agree with all written before me but would like to also add that to remember both anxiety and depression are normal when quitting and do get better with time. I found that no caffeine kept my anxiety away. I could drink 7 cups of coffee before quitting and feel nothing. After quitting, one cup made me anxious. Try some deep breathing exercises to relax you. See a doctor if you need to. It gets better.....it just takes time. Your doing great. So happy for you that you quit and we will all try to help you along the way.....

Congratulations ! Being a former smoker, having lung cancer, COPD and emphysema, I know what smoking does. I quit 18 years ago. I also know how difficult it is. It was one of the hardest things I did. But, it can be done. Few hints. Exercise. Any kind, any type. Best hint ! Use Nicorette gum. I used it when I would want a cigarette and within five minutes the craving was gone. I would chew the heck out of it. Also, I used toothpicks to gnaw, drinking straws to keep my fingers busy and hard candy to suck on. The candy for me was the least effective. Best wishes for a successful journey. You will feel so much better. I put aside the money I would have spent on cigarettes and rewarded myself with an awesome reward. Blessings. It will happen !!!!!!

Well done Glenver, get yourself out and about, it takes your mind of it. Anxiety is natural, so keeping your mind occupied is essential. Take up a hobby, knitting, jigsaws, computer games, anything that keeps you busy xx

Well done on what you have achieved so far. Tell yourself you're just not smoking for today and each day you will get through the day. If you think I can never smoke again it can make you feel anxious and panicky. One day at a time, or even one hour at a time. It will get easier the more time passes. Enjoy getting out in the fresh air if you are able to. You will no longer smell of cigs and you will start to notice how bad other smokers smell and realise that was once you! I wish you loads of luck. If you slip up just start again, you can do it. A load of us here have done it so I know you can too x

Baby steps it all takes time congratulations on the smoking but stress and anxiety only makes things worse you will be fine in time just go slow don't rush

Well done on quitting smoking. Don’t worry about coping in the weeks ahead and telling your self you will never smoke again, do it one day at a time. It will get easier. I opened a bank account just for my cig money and was amazed how many clothes I bought in the first year. I actually started to look forward to cigs going up in the budget as it meant I could put more money away for myself as I would have spent it if still smoking. 34 years later I still have that bank account and lots of clothes!

It will get easier, stay strong, you can do it.
