Pulmonary Hypertension - can DHA in fish oil reduce arterial pressures?

I have discovered something that I think is very important and I just want to share the info.

For those who just want the take home message - reducing Omega 6 in the diet and increasing Omega 3 (specifically by taking the DHA in fish oil) can possibly reduce arterial pressures. Everything you think is healthy, such as veg oils and seed fats, is throwing your Omega6/3 ratio out of whack and that increases the amount of Arachadonic Acid you produce...which metabolises into substances that cause inflammation and vasoconstriction.

Even reading back over this myself I think I sound like a snake oil salesman, lol. I think it is best if I just share what I have learned by linking you to some articles and research and let you come to your own conclusions.

lifeextension.com/Protocols...

This first article might not seem related but it's where I first learned about the 5-LOX pathway and Arachadonic Acid(AA). When I googled AA and PAH, I got this result:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

These are the two main articles that describe in detail how and why the DHA in fish oil - and reducing your intake of Omega 6 - can have very positive health benefits and reverse inflammation. In the 2nd link, the researchers found a 'profound' reduction in PAP.

I think it is worth a closer look by all of us dealing with pulmonary disorders. I guess it is important to remind you that you shouldn't take anything without checking with your respiratory team or doctor first. If you plan to start a supplement, I would recommend taking fish oil rather than cod liver oil because you need to take a large dose to get enough DHA and as cod liver oil contains vit A, it would be easy to find you are getting too much vit A.

I might give it a go LuxN, it can't do any harm xx

Thanks for that. I've known about the ratio for some time but had no idea how to achieve it. I looked on the site but at the moment it's having a remake but I'll keep checking as I'm interested. :))
