What effect does using oxygen have on you

I know you get your breath back faster but in general does it make you feel better ie less tired ECT

Thanks

Yes think so as if your low on iron a symptom is tiredness and that produces less oxygen. So as far as I understand it can make you more tried, lethargic and pretty low and groggy.

The iron thing can go the other way though. Like many with copd, I have polycethemia a condition where you have too much haemoglobin in your blood, as your body overproduces red blood cells, the ones which carry oxygen round the body, to compensate for low O2 saturation.

So presumably using supplementary O2 could help prevent this condition from occurring.

I am on oxygen 24/7 now and I still begin to feel tired around 4pm every afternoon. I think the main gain from using the oxygen is not only does it help with breathing but it is also protecting other organs such as your heart and brain from being starved of oxygen. Hope this helps

I agree with you gingermusic, I have my Siesta most afternoons, so need it, I'm on Oxygen for a minimum of 16 hours, after 2 ,half years I know it is more like 20 hours. But, So Needed, takes stress of the Heart. xxx
