Hi

Supplementary oxygen is given to protect major organs, maintain adequate levels of oxygen during excercise.

Hi

My oxygen time was increased by my oxygen last week from 8 hours (overnight) to 15 hours. The increase was because when the nurse checked my arterial blood level, it was too low. This shows that insufficient oxygen is being produced to safeguard my vital organs, Inconvenient really but no argument from me. I have pulmonary hypertension as well pulmonary fibrosis so my heart is struggling - needs all the help it can get!!

There must be a good reason why your intake has been increased.

hello I only know is that the reason I have o2 at night is because during the night i do not breath enough and I was getting o2 depravation during the night and so to protect my organs it was suggested to do as you are doing

I sleep better with it as well,

regards Richard

During the night your respiratory level goes down which can means your heart is under strain. The sixteen hours a day is because research has show that there is little benefit from using it for any less time . Buy an oximeter you will be able to see what your sats and heart rate are. If the heart is under strain you get enlargement and can get Pulmonary Hypertension which leads to heart failure in the end and then organ failure. Good luck Anne

My mum used to have oxygen at night. They told her that she was breathing more shallow at night so oxygen levels dropped. I' m sure one of the members here will know the answer ot try the helpline. All the best.
