Hi, my wife has been on steroids & antibiotics for 2 weeks & can't shift the mucus ,even though she is on tablets to shift this. She doesn't sleep @ night but falls asleep in the daytime. I have nearly lost her twice in 8 months. I just feel so helpless.

That's frightening for you both Masteryoda. What diagnosis does your wife have? Does she use a nebuliser? Please get a doctor to look at her and give more help.

Thinking of you both. Xxxx

Hi sassy59, thanks for your reply. Yes we have a nebuliser in the house & a portable one in the car. The doctor has said ( mon ) her oxygen level is low &she had an x ray on same day & sputum sample took in to path lab yesterday.

Hope your day goes well.

Good that they took a sample, they'll be able to tell which antibiotic she should be on to clear whichever type of bacteria she has. Plenty of fluids to help thin the mucus otherwise it can be a vicious circle if it stays in the lungs.

Don't forget to ring disc for results, they don't ring us any more with results. Good luck, I wish her well ASAP . Peege

Thanks damon 1864, will do.

I've recently had that trouble myself, unable to shift the mucus. I found that medication can only do so much and a great deal of self-help is required. That is very difficult when you feel so weak from constant coughing and lack of sleep. You should not feel helpless though. By encouraging her to do breathing exercises and other recommended procedures, you are probably doing as much, if not more, than the medics in helping with her to recover.

Not a very nice situation for you both to be in.......I am so sorry. There has to be more that your GP can do to help. If oxygen levels are low it should be treated with a bit more urgency.

I hope that you get something sorted very soon.

Take care. Pam XXX

I am so upset to hear you feel so helpless. Please be assured you are most definitely not alone in how you feel. I know that is of small consolation when you are struggling to know what to do. My father was exactly the same. Is your wife on o2 therapy? Sleep is a major problem I know. Awful for you as I'm sure it completely messes with your sleep too.

Please continue to reach out and ask for help. As much for yourself as for your wife. You and your wife deserve support. Are the local respiratory team involved? Sometimes we need to shout before the right regime is put in place.

Sending strength. I sympathise wholeheartedly.

I find that I need at least l litre of water per day (preferably 2) to keep mucus thinned out - that's on top of all the tea, coffee and soft drinks. Hope you get some more support soon.

Hi , try garlic and honey every morning, its more powerful than antibiotics and natural.

My mother is suffering terribly with trying to cough up form she drinks plenty of water & warm lemon & honey. She has had 4 lots of different antibiotics but nothing seems to work. She has also been in hospital but nit really helped all theyvdidcwas change her meds which seem to make her very confused, back at doctors tomorrow for a more thorough check up.
