If you don't want it to get worse, stop smoking. I smoked for 47 years and quit within 12 days of being diagnosed, that was 18 months ago. I am now fitter than i was 30 years ago. I exercise daily, eat healthy and my FEV has gone from 69% to 78%.

The best thing i found to help quit is ecigs...they work.

Hi Dennis

Same problem as I have. I am 74 been smoking since 14. It is so hard trying to stop. What medicines are you on. The mucus will not stop.i have managed to stop 4 times with 3-4 month lengths and my judas and caughing went each time, came back when started again. If you are on Prendison try and get off it. They have so many side affects.

Emphasima cannot be cured you will only get relieve by stopping smoke. That's it. The top part of your lung sacks get clogged and destroyed and cannot absorb oxygen into the sacks. Which makes it hard to breath and makes you tired.

Take care.

Dennis, I too smoked for almost 40yrs, the hardest thing ive EVER done was give up. I sympathise I really do but you MUST stop smoking. Use every aid necessary but the biggest thing you can do to slow down this dread disease is stop smoking. I am 57 and have been stopped now for almost 5yrs. Im not going to lie, I still want one everyday, but I want to breath more. It made a HUGE difference to my health and it will to yours. Keep on trying and eventually you'll do it. Good luck x

Dennis

You know what you need to do.......and by doing that, hopefully you will slow the progression of this disease down , to an extent that you will die of old age not COPD.

I can see by your past posts, your results worry you.....they are not to bad at the moment.....and you are frightened.

It's hard to quit....some on here have smoked for 60 years, but have managed to do so.

There has never been so much help available as there is now....Medication to help with craving...nicotine replacements, e- cigarettes, Vaping....

The thing is Dennis, dropping down from 2 packs a day, to one and a half packs, has only one benefit, your wallet will have a few more dollars in it every day....as for your lungs, no benefit at all.

Dennis, you are welcome to post on this subject, as may times as you want to , but you will always get the same answer from me.

Good luck

Velvet ( ex 20 a day smoker for 50 years ) xx

Dennis..there is a quit support community on HU, have a look, you may find it helpful

Hi Dennis I smoked 20 a day for years and when I worked nights I smoked day and night. I was diagnosed 11 years ago and was given champix by 12 days I was a none smoker that was 11 years ago if I can do it anyone can. Even with my copd at stage 4 I still feel better than when I smoked nd we are always hear to support you

I am no expert but I would think if you stopped smoking it would help. Are there any quit smoking clinics near you there is so much on the market sure ly something can help, and I don't mean replacing them with the artificial cigarettes name escapes me at the moment. All the luck in the world.

Amazingly it doesn't appear too bad on those results. You've been lucky so far... it'll get worse if you continue to smoke.

Hi the best thing you can do is to stop smoking I know it is hard HU have a quit site you can join. I have also read that if you smoke it can give a false reading if you use a oxymeter to see what your o2 level is. Take care x

Hi Dennis, now then I always figured that I am reasonably intelligent and of sound mind but having said that, I smoked for over 40 years so maybe I'm not that smart. Just look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, "Do I really need to take all this crap into my lungs, then spread it around my body, furring my arteries, taking away my breath"? I had to wait until I was diagnosed with COPD before stopping. Have a nice day.

I smoked for almost 40 years.Was 60 a day.

15 years ago I became a grandfather stopped smoking on that day.

I think if you can figure a reason to stop... you will stop

Think what you can do and places to go and if you have children think about them...what would they do with out their father.

A 1000 thoughts to stop

Just takes one to work for you

Think hard and I hope you find the one that works.
