Hi

I went to see a thoracic specialist as i had a cough for months and was short of breath.

She gave me an inhaler and said she would sent me for a ct scan. Does anyone know how long it takes for the appointment to come through as its been almost a month now. Is it usually this long? I live in Kent. Thanks

It depends on what part of the country you live in I went for a ct scan. And didn't have to wait 12 weeks and had to go in the evening for it hope you don't have long to wait x

Janet,

Although the scan can take several weeks to have, you should receive a letter asking you to contact the hospital to make the appointment (usually within 12 weeks of the letter).

It sounds like you haven't had the letter ... I suggest either contacting the specialist or your GP to confirm that the letter hasn't "gone astray" also, when talking to the appointments department it might be worth mentioning that you are happy to have a short notice cancellation appointment (if you are). as a number of appointments get cancelled leaving gaps.

Good luck whatever happens.

Hi . I think it varies. My daughter rang and asked to be put on a cancellation list so if anyone drops out she can be seen sooner. Might be worth s try? Good luck.

All good info above, hope you get you appointment soon. Just one thing to add sometimes appointments come through long before they are due and others give you very short notice. Welcome to the site hope to see more of you as time goes on.

Hello Janet,

Maybe start making phone calls to check things out next week, then you might at least be told how long the wait's likely to be. It's horrid watching for the post everyday.

I hope the cough and shortness of breath aren't too bad. Good luck. x

Thanks everyone. Yes i think i will phone the doctors secretary to make sure she has put me through for the scan and find out how long the wait might be thats a good idea.

Hi Janet,

depends on which park of Kent, which hospital etc., I used to live in kent - moved recently to Sussex, it would be well worth you ringing and finding out roughly how long. look forward to hearing how you get on.

Good morning Janet,

How long is a piece of string?..........could be a while, but if I were you I'd ask to be put on a cancellation list - then it could be a short piece of string:-)

All the best to you.
