Hi Everyone, My name is Sue,  I live in North Wales, I have COPD,  I am 63 , I am new here ad am looking forward to maybe sharing my feelings whether good days or bad with anyone who understands how that feels.,  It is so scary sometimes.

You certainly have a houseful - when you said about getting up in the night I never realised you had so many Suje - are they all related to each other?

I have copd moderate.  Nothing to be scared about you know.  This is a great Group and people are so knowledgeable and helpful about everything. Do not worry, and if you have a question there is generally someone here night or day to help or just to have a general chat.

Hi Jennifer, Three of them are related,They are all shetland sheepdogs, All over ten now though and not in the greatest of health, The big fella Max at the back of the photo has gone now and is greatly missed, I still have not got over losing him,  I dont think i ask enough of my doctor as i really dont know what stage i am, Dont think i want to know really, I think everyone is struggling more than me from what i have read so am hoping maybe i am not to bad,Sue

Good morning Sue,

I have known one gorgeous Sheltie personally - what a character.... she was a neighbour's dog but used to wait at her garden gate every day for a cuddle as I was on my way home from work. She would see me coming and start whizzing around like a little spinning top, giving little squeaks of pleasure.  I live with Merlin - a ten year old Yellow Labrador, he is my everything.

I found it scary at first too.

Hi Sue, Yes that is five on the photo, Sadly the big fella Max at the back had to be put to sleep just a year ago, It was an awful time with him and it made me very ill, I caught a chest infection within 4 days of him going and was rushed into Hospital, Was in five days then diagnosed three months later, Have been on and off for the last few months but except for this tightness and cant breath about approx 4 to 6 o,clock each night I actually do feel a bit better than i have, Sorry for the moan but it is nice to tell someone, How about you how did yours get diagnosed, Sue

Aww, so sorry you lost Max. It's so hard when they have to leave us 😢.

When I think back, there were signs of my COPD years ago but I didn't realise. Things came to a head following the dog up the sand dunes, she was after a rather disgusting 'snack' (the yuckiest sort). I suddenly couldn't get my breath, thought I was going to collapse. GP sent me for cardio-respiratory tests as there is very poor heart history in the family. They found a lazy/leaky valve but said it wasn't a problem but the lung function tests confirmed COPD. Was told it was moderate. That was three years ago.

I'm just getting over pleurisy and pneumonia (mild) so not brilliant at the moment. Interspatial shadowing showed on the x-ray but GP thinks it's the infection, will be repeated in a few weeks to see if it's cleared up. 

Do you live on the coast? We're on the beach every day as long as it's not windy. She's good company as I'm on my own but not a cuddly dog, doesn't do the sitting on your lap bit. I have a cat too, they tolerate each other but Poppy (dog) is naughty sometimes and chases he poor old cat.

Aww, I have a Poppy too, Gosh you have been through the mill, It sounds awful for you but in the short time i have been talking to you and others i really am lucky, This last six weeks i have not had a set back, No steroids or antibiotics so shouldnt moan, And i have a wonderful husband who has the patience of a saint, So again i am lucky, Sue

Hi i really dont know what stage i am, I havnt asked, I am on Fostair and ventolin, Was diagnosed in June but have had  5 bad bouts since then and been on steroids and antibiotics each time,But touch wood have been better this last six weeks so keeping my fingers crossed,Sue

I have fostair and salamol which help but I think I've had 3 or 4 chest infections this year, the last one cleared a couple of weeks ago but took 4 weeks of antibiotics and steroids. It's a pain isn't it? still things could be worse and the sun shone 2 days this week so made my daily walks much better and we have summer to come. Oh and I'm going to see Suggs (from madness) this month so all is good with the world

Hello Sue and welcome from another sue, beautiful dogs, and really sorry you've lost max, awful to lose a pet, we are thinking of getting another dog, we lost our border collie years ago and still talk about him.  It is scary being told we've copd, think I was depressed for a good year after I was told, I still long for the days when I could do more, but then there are days when I do feel quite content.  I need to get fitter, lose weight, get active, have pain in left wrist, and arthritis in right foot !! It is a pain in more ways than one.  I think you'll love our online family, they are a smashing mob xxxx

Hi Sue, a very warm welcome to you. I live in Scotland which I think is very similar to Wales. The scenery, green open spaces, the hills, the lovely people. 

I used to travel to South Wales when my daughter lived there. I loved my visits! She's in Cambridge now so I've not been for a few years. 

Love your dogs! We have a Siberian Husky,  twelve years old, daft as a brush & totally untrainable! Wouldn't be without her though.

Hi Sue, welcome. Like you I Have Copd. Sometimes it is severe but currently I Am just into moderate. I remember being scared when first.diagnosed but for much of the time I keep ok. Your dog's are beautiful but I am sorry you lost Max , it is horrible to lose a loved pet. Have you been offered pulmonary rehab: if not ask your Dr if it is available. It will teach you about the illness & about ways to control it. Love Margaret x

I have a beloved cockapoo called Marley who I walk for 2 hours every morning - though I've noticed I'm walking more slowly recently.   With him I tend to forget about the copd for long periods, and he's always keeping an eye on me!

Hi Sue,welcome,we all get a bit scared sometimes,it is scary not being able to breathe.Practise breathing exercises while feeling good is a good idea.Have you had Pulmanory Rehab course they are great for information as well as exercise,ask your GP for referral.Feel free to ask anything you want.Regards D. 🌺

Welcome sueray, you will be so pleased you have joined this wonderful sight ,I dont no what I would have done without it recently ,I'm from north wales to ,you will learn how to cope with your copd ,especially with the help of this surport,we are all afraid when first diagnosed,I no I was ,but the more I've learned the less afraid I am ,are you with a consultant ,they should tell you what chest complaint you have ,I have mild bronchiecstasis, and some emphysema, moderate to severe keep well keep your chin up
