Murphy's Settling In...

Over the years of our marriage we've had a succession of different animals share our home...but it's many years since we had a tiny kitten.

Hector...our last indoor cat...was about eighteen when he died two years ago...we'd forgotten just what engaging little creatures they are.

I've a gingham curtain hanging in front of the sink which Murphy was swinging off...leaping up and down with his tail waving back and forth...

A screwed up bit of cooking foil provided him with something to chase and catch...though I'm going to get him some of those little sparkly balls with bells inside...and a cat-nip mouse. And I like those fancy things with a platform as well actually...though he'd probably be happy enough with a cardboard box.

Himself...who has always declared a dislike of cats...had Murphy sitting on his lap this morning...then he cleaned out the carrier Marie loaned us and cleaned out his litter tray...I was slightly gob-smacked to be honest...

He does have a touch of diarrhoea...not Himself...Murphy...probably due to the change in diet and water...and the stress of leaving his mother and coming into new surroundings.

There are plenty of hidey places he can retreat to if it all gets too much...a basket with a cushion right in a corner...and there are spaces under the kitchen cupboards...he's explored those already...emerging with dust bunnies on his paws.

I thought Roger was a silly name...Murphy suits him much better.

O yes Murphy's a great name for him😻 poor little fellow with a delicate tummy, hope he's better soon , give him a cuddle from me and Himself is so good to help, maybe a gooseberry crumble would go down well😀 I'm in the middle of making gooseberry and rhubarb jam ..😇

oh I remember when mine were like that. When we first go them we used to put them in the dogs cage (no.... not with the dogs) :-) so that the dogs got used to their smell etc. and they got on very well for the rest of their lives.

I quite liked the name Roger, but agree that Murphy is classy. I dislike names like Fluff and Sooty etc. I am sitting here looking at Malcolm fast asleep. He has had a busy day going wild over a (catnip) stuffed mouse from Tesco. X

I much prefer Murphy, it is a proper Irish name. Rodger has so many connotations, lodger, dodger, codger, todger, etc. I was looking for words to do a poem about him.

Murphy should be easier to make a poem with. I had a good look round the net to find oriental cats and found several with markings like Murphy. He doesn't have the massive ears and long skinny face, but he has the markings.

I read that they are "chatty cats" it will interesting to see if he chats and chirrups to you.

A length of thick binder twine type rope, wrapped around a piece of wood, makes a great scratching post, Saves wear and tear on your furniture.

If you can get to an Aldi shop, my grandaughter says their vita pet cat food is wonderful. It cleared up an allergy on her cat.

If you can get hold of economy size bags of frozen chicken, Murphy would love it. You would save money on Whiskers too.

Please give him a hug from me.

If Brian/Murphy is of similar disposition to meself, he'd tell you, "Call me anything you like. Just make sure you call me for mealtimes!"

A beautiful, sunny day with a light breeze here on the IoW. Have made an executive decision to go for a long(ish) walk later, ending up at the pub. Such trail blazing decisions, and I haven't even finished the crossword yet !

Enjoy the new one, Vashti.

Murphy is a great name! Hope he settles in soon. Not that I wish our old cat ill, but I was jealous reading your tales of the kitten.
