My turn to vent.

Why oh why is life so contrary? It was only a day or so ago I was extolling the virtues of positive thinking and today I am sitting here listless and angry with myself.

My eyes are fully open to people that are really badly off but I can’t shake off this feeling of legarthy that has suddenly overwhelmed me. The slightest movement is tiring, muscles ache and even thinking of writing is a chore.

I suppose Emphysema is bad enough but not content with that I had to come down with Shingles as well.

Having read through what I have just written I gave myself the same advice that I would have given to someone else in a similar position.

‘Just relax and take things easy for a while. Sit outside in a shady part of the garden or under an umbrella to protect any spots that you may have, take creams and meds prescribed by doctor and allow yourself to be pampered for a day or two.’

Sometimes it seems a little too easy to deal out advice, but when it comes to ourselves we know how we feel and how difficult it is to explain to others in order to get the assistance we really need, which is basically the desire to have someone to confide in.

We all know the person who always moans and the ones that never complain, but most are people that try to be as little trouble as possible to their families so they come on here to vent, just like I am at the moment ………… and do you know what? I feel better already!

Oh Eightyplus *BIG HUG* you poor thing shingles can be so painful and it pulls you down, You are always so upbeat and cheerful, its totally OK to come on here and moan we are your friends, and more than that we are friends that know exactly how you feel , as we are well aware how illnesses etc can pull you down. In fact some days you can not even be ill but still feel very low in spirits

So you moan away, have a tantrum if you like....scream and shout let it all out !!! ( oh I think that's a song)

I do so hope you feel a little better tomorrow

That's not complaining or venting that is just explaining how you feel at this moment in time. As Newlands has said Shingles is a painful and awful thing to have. If I had it on top of my Emphysema boy I would be whinging to hell. Take your own good advise, sit in a shady place in the garden and relax. Do you like reading? I can lose myself in a book and forget everything, even that the dinner is cooking in the oven when I have had a book I just can't put down. One burnt dinner one complaining family. Take good care and hope you improve quickly. xx

Oh dear I do feel for you,& here I was feeling sorry for myself with the flu!

Shingles are absolutely painful,so you shout as much as you like! My Harry had them a couple of years ago,& I remember how he suffered.I am not sure what you have in the way of creams, but he found the one with peppers in,the best, trying to remember what it's called. It feels very hot when applied, but soothes the nerve pain.Maybe someone else will remember,I recall seeing someone else here writing about it,some time ago.

Do hope you get relief soon, they are known to make you feel miserable,so you are not alone!

Gentle hugs to you,let us know how you go,love Wendells xxxx

Hi again, just put shingles in the search box,& found what I was looking for.Grandad Brian, agreed with me,about the chilli cream,& said its called Capsaicin cream, & needs a script. He found it helped a lot also.Hope this is of some help! xxx

Good memory Wendells, and correct too. Shingles can take a while to recover from eightyplus, but the ointment helped me a lot, hope it will do the same for you.

Thanks everyone but I'm able to control the pain and itching, it's just the misery of feeling more listless than I normally am. As for reading a book! I was due to have Cataracts removed yesterday but had to cancel because of the Shingles, so no reading for me.

However I do have bird song from a few Blackbirds while the bushes and feeding table is alive with Blue Tits and what appear to be baby Sparrows. Noisy little perishers but very welcome and friendly visitors.

Oucher eightyplus not very nice for you at all at all! But I too find writing and sharing very cathartic so you carry on nothing wrong with that, this is a great find this forum so many lovely people all helping and understanding us in our hours of need. We're up and down like yoyo's nature of our disease I reckon.Do hope things start improving and the shingles go soon for you. :) Janexx

Don't feel bad for telling us how you are feeling. You are not well and have a right to wallow in it for a while, but you sound far too practical and grounded to me to allow yourself to be low for long. I have never had shingles, but I understand it is painful and you have severe breathing problems on top of that. We are all friends here and if you can't tell us then whats the point of this forum. I totally agree with you that it is easy to dish out advice to others, but when it comes to ourselves its usually a different story. You just let people take care of you, rest and generally mollycoddle yourself. I hope you feel much better soon. hugs xx

eightyplus, I really sympathise with you deeply, because you are affected deeply with this shingles. Did they give you cream to calm it down and are you on pain killers.
