Great day Oxygen at last. :-)

I had my oxygen delivery late yesterday, they decided that I was to have 4 lpm not 5 and they will keep a check on me to see how I go.

I only have a small cylinder which with the conserver will last about three hours. They have given me 8 cylinders to keep me going and they are bringing me a trolley this afternoon.

I went to my exercise class this afternoon and it was fantastic did loads more than I usually do and feel good now I am home. I am really looking forward now to building up my muscles again and getting back on the treadmill.

I asked if I could use the oxygen in the shower (I have a wet room not a cubicle) I was told it was probably not advisable but when I look in the booklet it says you can go swimming with it on, can anyone advise me.

Glad to hear you have got your oxygen now, would of thought you could use it in the shower with it if you can go swimming with it, I'm not on oxygen yet myself but sure someone will be along shortly who is or you could ring the B.L.F. helpline on 03000030555

Hi Pollyjj,

The cylinders will be OK in the shower, they are truly waterproof. What is a problem though, is the conserver unit. If it is an electronic one, with a battery to power it, then it should definitely NOT get wet. If the conserver is a mechanical one (these are more rare), with no battery, then it should be OK. If in doubt, cover it with a plastic bag.

I use oxygen in the shower, and because showering is a relatively strenuous excercise, I use a cylinder just on direct continuous supply. This has worked for me for the last three years or so with no problems.

Glad your feeling the benefit already! M

Great news Polly, so glad.

It sounds like its going to be a great asset to you keeping up with the exercise :)

Hi Polyjj

I used oxygen in the shower when I was in hospital - they had a wet room. However it was either a cylinder (without conserver) or attached to the wall oxygen supply. Like someone else said - it is not the oxygen cylinder itself but the batteries in the conserver that are the problem. I must admit that around the house I have a concentrator - if I am feeling low I wear the oxygen until I step into the shower (hose looped around the basin taps)- then as I get out of the shower, wrap a towel around myself - oxygen back on to see me over the getting dried and dressed stage.

You will soon find the best way for you to manage and hopefully if the PR course goes well, you won't need the oxygen in the shower anyway!

Take care

Maggie
