Hi Music, there are so many medical reasons why your lungs get scared as Debbie said the scarring is picked up with various scans, I had scarring with fibrosis for 7 years and during that time the scarring was never really a issue and I had scans every year, The next time you are at your GP or Hospital ask to see your scan, some people take their word for it in case it scares them when they see their scans. Take Care mattcass

Pete has scarring on his lungs because of his sarcoidosis and his lung capacity has been reduced. Not sure if everyone with copd gets scarring but Pete was diagnosed 3 years ago with the bronchitis part of copd. Take care. xxx

I had terrible whooping cough aged 34 , a LOT of bronchitis as a child and have had asthma since early childhood.

My x-rays were normal apparently, but would I also be likely to have got scaring? Would that show up on an x-ray or only on something more detailed like a CT scan?

I'd like to know this too Koala.

Apparrently my chest x-rays are 'clear' according to the hospital.

However, my GP tells me that my lungs wil be scarred from pneumonias and chronic chest infections. A CT scan wil show everything(but I cant get one grrr)

Sort of weird they are certain your lungs are scared but they are not checking exactly how much or where...

I've never had a lung CT either, but I do admit to avoiding doctors as much as possible. When I turned up at the lung docs two weeks ago he asked me if I'd got another lung doc because I hadn't been to see him for a decade haha.

I wonder if we should ask for a CT of our lungs? My lung doc was more worried by my allergy skin test because my whole arm swelled up and looked rather spectacular. I suppose he's right, get that sorted as much as possible and it'll help my lungs.

Pneumonia is famous for scarring as far as I know. I hope yours isn't too bad.

Cripes, must have been scarey. What were you allergic to? Mine was aspergillis & mould although the cons said it was negligible .

Desperate for a diagnosis. GP referred me for CT but cons refused. Cons is a total horrid person, very rude, dismissive, old school know all. GPs want me to complain but I dont have the energy or fight in me at the moment.

I'm thinking of borrowing the money for a private one. P

Oh mould is a difficult one, i was told that although I'm not allergic to it I need to ensure there's none in my home. Thank goodness yours is negligible.

I'm allergic to LOADS of stuff, such as pollen (grass, tree etc etc), dust mites, raw fruit and veg, honey, avocados, legumes like chick peas etc, cleaning products, smoke, and so on.

Luckily I can eat meat, fish, dairy and CHOCOLATE so I'm ok :-) haha.

Because I've known that for years I wasn't scared or shocked, I told them before the test what my allergies were and which class, but the docs like to see it for themselves.

He was soooo sweet when he saw my arm, so was the nurse who went to get some cream for me. It took over a week using that cream for my arm to look normal again.

Sorry to hear your consultant is horrid. I HATE it when docs are up their own arses.

My lung doc is great (so far). He's Syrian and has an amazing room full of Syrian stuff like marquetry and even a waterfall LOL. He gave me an appt for 2 months after he put me on the high dose of Flutiform. I wonder how he plans to attack my allergies. He works in Germany otherwise I'd PM you with his name.

Still sounds pretty awful, that'll teach them that sometimes the patient is actually right.

I'm glad you've got a good lung doc, you're very lucky.

My lungs are weird. The other day I saw the practice nurse, she noticed that I'm croaky n chesty at the moment and yet peak flow was 420! It doesn't even go below 350 when I'm really bad with the asthma.

Ah well, there'll be a diagnosis one day. Have a lovely weekend. P

gosh, I've never heard of a consultant being sweet.

Do they have a similar system in Germany?

I had a Syrian obstetrician many years ago when I was living in Libya. I hope he's not back in Syria right now. I've no idea if he was Sunni, Alawite or Shiite (cant spell it).

I have a gorgeous marquetry backgammon box my husband bought me in Damascus.

Hope he sorts your allergies. My GP put me on Montekulast to help with mine. After 4 weeks on it I can smell a little.

i just googled flutiform and lo & behold, up came your BLF comment from 24th May! I'm on Seretide 250 acuhaler which seems to be okay. I was on the inhaler but horrid cons changed it to the acuhaler.

I worry a bit as I'm taking a steroid nasal spray 2 x daily as well. Hope it's not too much of the dreaded steroid.

Just realised I've been replying on my tablet as well as the laptop - may as well send them both - what a dope, better get to bed. Night, P

I have scarring of the lungs from past infections, not COPD related. It does show up on scans, infact mine was mistaken for something else but has remained unchanged now for quite sometime. Thats my experience and it does have many causes as already stated.

I had had several lung x rays all of which were supposedly clear and all of which lulled me into a false sense of security, however, when I was recently hospitalised I had a CT scan which showed damage? scarring? whatever something wrong and then COPD was diagnosed. What caused the scarring damage - smoking I guess but who knows maybe a combination of factors, maybe your doctor will be able to tell you possible causes of yours - have not asked mine as I know they will say smoking so no point.
