Dilated Cardiomyopathy/ Heart Transplant

I was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy in November 2022 after suffering shortness of breath and always being tired and breathless. I quickly deteriorated and when I went back to see my Cardiologist in January I was told I was now critical and needed to be admitted and put on the urgent transplant list. I was admitted to the NSD (National Services Department) ward at the Golden Jubilee Hospital and after 4 weeks I was offered a heart that was a match for me

It’s amazing that you have a new heart - modern medicine can be miraculous! Do the doctors know the cause of your heart failure?

Hi I hope you are doing well, I also had a heart transplant at the golden jubilee in July 2020 the middle of lockdown. I was diagnosed as having dilated cardiomyopathy but after my transplant I found out it was arrythmogenic cardiomyopathy caused by a faulty gene. I waited over two years and I can't describe the nightmare it was but now I am so grateful for everything my cardiac team at that fantastic hospital have done for me. I only have to go twice a year for scans and so far everything is going well. What a difference it has made to my life, I can actually have one now 🤣.I was a lot older than you at 62 although my recovery took a while and at times I did think why? I got there and what a difference it has made. My med regime is stable now and it is just second nature, I remember being quite overwhelmed at the responsibility at the time but it's amazing how it becomes the norm. If there is anything at all you want to ask me just send a message, take care char
