Angina medications

I have been taking Sotilol since 2016 for intermittent AF episodes. I have managed over time to reduce my dose to 40mg from 80mg per day to make it more tolerable.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with Angina and was prescribed Glycerol Trinitrate pump spray 400 micrograms to take when needed and Nicorandil to take regularly. I could not tolerate Nicorandil so I was put on Isosorbide mononitrate which was also intolerable.

I can only tolerate the Glycerol Trinitrate and recently have had to take it more frequently.

My question is how much Glycerol Trinitrate can I safely take? Is once or twice a day okay?

Also would it help if I increased my Sotilol dose back to 80 mg?

this has to be one for the medical profession. This forum can’t advise on medication.

If it does not say on the pack then you can either talk to your dispensing pharmacist or, preferably, to the pharmacist employed by your doctor’s group of surgeries.

This is definitely a question for a professional - and the prescribing doctor should have explained this

If you need urgent advice and can not reach a pharmacist or GP try the British Hesrt Foundation Helpline (office hours only)

Hi. I was getting Angina occasionally and they gave me GTN Spray (pretty good stuff, always worked for me) anyway! I was told 1 to 2 Sprays underneath the Tongue up to 3 times a day. If the Pain didn't go after that to call 999. From what I can remember, haven't had to use it lately, the Instructions were on the Box and, also, on the Instructions. Failing that, try the NHS Site.
