hi , I’ve been told by my cardiologist that I have CI . ( my heart won’t go over 100 beats per minute ) Wondered if anyone else has this and what is the impact on your life and exercise . I find I can walk quite easily but struggle with hills , get very out of breath. I also need to rest after exertion . I also have cardiovascular disease and have 5 stents . Thanks in advance.

Chronotropic incompetence

As far as I know I don't have CI, but have similar issues when walking hills. I can plod along all day, but I need what a friend calls "brief pauses for photographic opportunities" when ascending steep slopes. My pulse rate can reach over 120 when doing exercise (as assessed during cardiac rehab), so I don't think it is a simple situation for me. I always assumed it was the beta blocker I was on, but it has recently been removed from my medication, so it will be interesting to see what happens the next time I climb hills. My resting pulse rate was in the 50s and is now in the 60s/low 70s.
Just wondering whether you have you had an explanation as to why you have CI.
No I haven’t really , I do have cardiovascular disease which affects blood flow and an also minor valve issues so probably the combination of those factors . Some people are born with it , I’ve never been that keen on exercise so maybe that’s why! I’m determined to keep moving though as any exercise is good for our hearts.
