Hi Tradesman

Atrial flutter + apixaban = significantly reduced risk of a stroke

Atrial flutter + placebo or nothing = significantly increased risk of a stroke

If for any reasons you have debilitating side effects from apixiban then there are other anticoagulants you can try.

In addition you can do as much as you can to improve your own health regime. Avoid quackery and talk to your health practitioners.

Take it from me you don't want to have a severe stroke or any other heart event. There may be other treatments on offer down the line but they are likely to be invasive. What was it they say, " keep taking the tablets".

Indeed, the real question is "how safe is atrial flutter"? And for me the answer would be "unsafe enough to be happy taking an anticoagulant".

I had a stroke in my retina which thankfully proved to be transient -- but possibly only because I was already on warfarin.

The leaflet accompanying your medication will summarise any side effects. Or see nhs.uk/medicines/apixaban/s...

It's pretty standard medication for us "hearties". I've been on it for a year now. It's for thinning your blood and preventing strokes, as mentioned by others already.

It takes a while to adjust to this as it has draw backs, mainly non-stop bleeding! When shaving I am now using blunt blades, otherwise a cut will not heal as quickly, for hours (12) in my case. Avoid injuries of any sort, internal and external. So you now have to live a more safety conscious lifestyle!

I've been on it for a couple of years, other than initially getting used to it, and as folks have said on here, better to take it than risk the alternatives.

My advice. Take the pills and exercise regularly.

If only I knew I had AF and was on Apixaban I would have avoided the stroke I had in 2019. Been on Apixaban and Bisoprolol since, never had a problem.

I have been on Apixaban since my stroke in 2019. Had a fall on Wednesday and hit my head and needed to spend 7 hours in A&E getting checked out as they gave me a CT scan but still survived.

All the best.
