Hi my name is Sandra. My partner was discharged from hospital 9th December after having a triple heart bypass. He was readmitted 2 days ago due to infection. The surgeon wants him to have a CT scan but he cant lay flat on his back, due to pain and breathlessness. Has anybody else gone through this ?

What sort of infection ? In a wound site ? I had a stubborn infection in my sternum wound but was treated at home with a couple of courses of antibiotics. During the early days of being at home I did have a pain in my back (m, I’d notice it when I was trying to sleep laying on my back and not d involuntary arch to stretch in the night . It lasted months , I was told it was from the position I was placed in during surgery , it eventually went. I had nstemi heart attack and quadruple bypass July 2023 aged 61, doing very well now 👍🏻 Early days were not all smooth , took a lot of getting used to meds and getting back to fitness, found my way and look back at those early days with amazement!

I had to have a ct scan a week after surgery and had the same worry. Believe me the scan is so fast your partner will be able to cope for that very brief time. It’s unpleasant but possible

Hi Sandra, please try not to worry (probably impossible though!), I'm sure they'll find a way around it to complete the scan. The CT scans don't take a long time at all, and they're probably just being extra vigilant in doing it and will take very good care of him. Our by-pass ops, on the other hand, can take quite a long time and, lying in one position for the duration, can leave us with muscle aches and pains that take a while to recover from as well as a wee bit of nerve damage sometimes that can also take a while to heal.

Hopefully you'll have him home again soon, no doubt with a raft of antibiotics to add to the medication tally! Will be thinking of you both. Carol
