Excellent news!

(Expect to be a bit scatter-brained the next week though. I was all over the place the week before my surgery. I didn't really feel stressed, but focus was definitely an issue.)

my husband had the same surgery at the Royal Brompton. They are specialists there and you will be in really good hands. The waiting is so hard, but you’re almost there. Wishing you a speedy final wait and a good recovery.

Chris I had mine done 13 months ago. What a difference. If you are having open heart, I was given a great tip. When you meet the anaesthetist the day before ask them to write a script for the nursing staff for a Diazepam to get a good night sleep, no worries and one for the nursing staff to give you the next day before your op. I went into the op not caring a hoot no nerves. If they don’t have a script the nursing staff are rushing about trying to find a prescriber when they are already busy. What would have been my most stressful event ever was just a breeze. Best wishes to you. Welcome to your new life after the op.

Indeed.

And then in the days after the op, when the nurses come by and ask if you want a pain killer, the answer is "yes". Don't be a numpty like I was and think "oh, it's not that bad", and then lie there in pain for 6 hours because you don't want to bother everyone in the middle of the night by hitting the call button....

I had mine 19 years ago at St Thomas, felt like a new person afterwards and was walking down to the hospital restaurant three days later. Doc said I could eat any thing I wanted which was mostly pizza.
