Post surgery "heart support:
By heart support, do you mean cardiac rehab? I'm 7 weeks post op aortic valve replacement and bypass and although I can walk 1-2 miles daily I certainly wouldn't want to be doing much else yet. Very sore and tender chest which has got worse week by week the more I do. The Dr says that's normal, and eventually will improve.
Thanks for reply..hope you feel better soon.I don't want to tempt fate, but I've been feeling really good since home apart from slight discomfort ,but no pain in chest area. Stomach area occasionally irritating "nerve end " damage.im walking every day more each time.ill post how I get on with heart support,my follow up with surgeon is in 4 week's ,and on reduced meds now,
Are you in the UK? My follow up is 3 months.I was in hospital for two weeks post op and my recovery is 2 steps forward 1 step back. I know everybody is different and I wish you a quick and full recovery
The hospital Cardiac Rehab team turned up at my bedside, when I was too wired up to even look at them properly, with leaflets for me to take away. It was during Covid so, for the next few weeks they rang me each week to check my health and state of mind.
After a small number of visits to their gym for assessment, I was referred to a long-term Rehab class, which I still go to.
After I got home, I was contacted by the Heart Failure Clinic, who saw me every couple of months to check on any issues like fluid-retention. At the start of this year, they transferred my care back to my GP although, in reality, it's the nurse who runs the Cardiac Rehab class whose care I'm really now in, since she cares more than the GP surgery
