Well I've been dealing with AF and A flutter for over 30 years and live to tell the tale.

Having said that I must say that in many ways Aflutter can be more troublesome as it can be unrelenting. However , if ablation is offered to you then this has a high success rate and is a much simpler and quicker procedure than Afib ablation.

Have you considered this ?

Thank you so much for your response. I'm finding the anxiety and panic of the episodes of Aflutter hard to cope with. How have you coped for 30 years?

I had PAF successful treated by catheter ablation which worked for nearly 4 years until I caught covid. I then went into AFlutter which I had for 6 months finally brought under control by Tildiem 300. I also then had a surgical ablation several months later during an AVR OHS.

I found flutter far more symptomatic and debilitating than PAF and I had to trial several drugs and increasing dosages before the right effective combination was found. Keep nagging your GP/cardiologist for effective meds.

I believe ablation for flutter is an 'easier' and more effective procedure than for PAF.

Thank you for that....my cardiologist maintains that Bisoprolol is the only thing I can take...I'm not sure I can trust him any more....my body aches when I have an episode...did that happen to you ?

I became intolerant of betablocker usage with recurrent eye infections/dry eyes, so my GP stopped me taking them & changed me to Tildiem (diltiazem) and kept increasing the dosage until it worked.

I couldn't do anything when in flutter, very symptomatic - exhausted all of the time and such a horrible sensation in your chest, shortness of breath & chest pain.

Do you know why your cardiologist says that bisoprolol is the only thing you can take, as I understand it there are other drugs available.

I would say consult your GP and ask whether they can change your bisoprolol with the advice/agreement of your cardiologist.

Hi Cat.....my flutter used to only last a few hours and it could be weeks in between episodes but now I get it on and off every day...like you say, exhausted all the time, muscle aches etc trying to fight the sensations....I might ask about Tildiem...just concerned about upsetting him !

I was on sotalol (beta blocker) before changing to tiliem, and also digoxin & apixaban. Just ask whether there may be an alternative drug as you don't seem to be getting the required benefits from bisoprolol. Ask him about rate & rhythm control drugs and anticoagulants. You could try contacting the BHF nurses for advice & more info

I'm sorry to hear that - hope it resolves very soon. Did you manage to get a change of medicines.

My ablation seems to be holding, fingers crossed.

No my consultant just want to stick with Bisoprolol or 2nd ablation which I think I am going to say yes to...its just such a terrible feeling....glad you are OK and thank you for replying.
