HelloI am taking an anti depressant for depression/anxiety it is called Venaflaxin 37.5mg x 3 tablets per day It has stopped my panic attacks and my anxiety is only a little now which I get in the mornings as I am still awaiting an appointment
Hiya, I don’t take medication because of heart health anxiety specifically (although I do occasionally get it) but a beta blocker might help if a doctor advises it!
My sister has beta blockers for her anxiety.
I also have beta blockers for my CHD but I notice if I have missed a dose my body will start reacting with physical anxiety and the beta blockers resolve that
However I want to stress this kind of advise should only be followed through with doctors approval! X
Hi JanI can't answer your question regarding medication, but thought this might be worth mentioning. I also suffered from severe health anxiety. This year I self referred to talking therapies via the NHS, and after an initial telephone assessment was accepted for a face to face course of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). I went in with an open mind, and followed the programme, and I can honestly say it has helped enormously. I now understand my anxiety triggers, behaviours, and how to manage it better.
I’m on the beta blocker Bisoprolol for SVT but it also helps with my anxiety. I did a CBT based mindfulness course through NHS Talking Therapies which was very helpful. You can self refer online.
I'm on escitalopram for depression/anxiety; my sisters are also on SSRIs, though different ones. Both my daughters are on propanalol; one takes it every day to reduce anxiety (as SSRIs don't work for her), the other only for acute panic attacks.
I also did CBT, which I found quite useful.
My sisters and I are also on PPIs for hiatus hernia. (We all have crap connective tissue genes which are likely also responsible for our heart valve issues.)
To make a long story short, there are lots of different options, you just need to find one that works for you.
Jantech, for anxiety and many other emotional issues, I turn to flower remedies - Dr Bach (Holland & Barratt, Baldwins etc) Mimulus and Aspen, and of course rescue remedy, or Crystal Herbs - Inner Calm etc, also Australian Bush Flower Remedies, and those produced by Chalice Well, many to look at. I would not take 'medication' it has always seemed ridiculous to me to treat an emotional issue with a drug. So, give the flower remedies a try, they always work for me, you could also try meditation, and Reiki, which I find very helpful, best wishes.
