My husband had his pre-admission appointment for his triple bypass last Monday which included talking to his surgeon's registrar, ECG, sats, bloods, and swabs. My question is should he have had lung and carotid artery tests. I am also concerned that vein harvesting from both his legs will not be by keyhole surgery. So he will have long wounds which will obviously give more problems than four small incisions. I am thinking this will be because it is quicker for the surgeon and not necessarily the best for my husband. At 79 his healing will obviously take longer. Sorry for the long post, thanks for reading.

Pre-admission tests for CABG
Hello
I can only speak what happened when I had my tests done before my triple Bypasses I had a lung test done where I had to keep blowing in this tube and the Nurse had some kind of machine attached to it what gave her the readings which I have always presumed was the lung test
They will need 3 viens and as long as the one inside the chest is good they like to use that then some Surgeons will take one long vien leaving a long scar but just from one leg and make two Bypasses from that or mine did smaller incisions down both my legs and took a vein from each leg
I would not worry about the healing even younger people can either heal quick or take longer as well as older people to can heal quicker in some cases
The Surgeons who do these operations would never make a decision on what will be quicker for them but would make them on what will be best for the patient
I am sure they have done all the tests they need to do because they have to they also have someone to answer to so if they do not follow the guidelines they would be in trouble
I can sense you are anxious and rightly so if you are but try not to overthink things put your trust in the Surgeon and Consultants their main priority is to take care of your Husband and they will want the outcome to be as successful as you do x
Hi. I had a triple CABG two years ago at 77.They took the vein from my right leg, ankle to groin. I wasn't expecting that. I was quite shocked when I saw it, but I was amazed really at how quickly it healed even at 77. So don't worry about that . I wouldn't say it was painful, just uncomfortable and stiff for a while. I can barely see the scar now and there were no stitches to remove. Best wishes.
