6 months on from OHS

Hi.

Exactly 6 months ago today since OHS for a mitral valve repair. 50 year old guy.

For anyone waiting for OHS, nervous, apprehensive even scared all normal feelings pre-op but can honestly say you will be in fantastic hands, amazing and caring hospital staff.

6 months on other than the scar, that's fading you wouldn't know had it done, feel fitter than done for a long time, take up any offer of cardio-rehab available, do the breathing exercises etc.

Be back driving after 6 to 8 weeks, even having a physical job 10 to 12 weeks if all goes well. These milestones were achieved with even spending 5 days in ICU with a collapsed lung.

We the ones that know got heart conditions are the lucky ones in reality, as something can be done about it.

Good luck everyone.

thank you for the cheery and positive post.

I totally agree with what you wrote. I was just the same, after nine months all was great ( I am older so recovery a bit slower).

I think we need lots more compliments for the NHS and much less complaints and queries.

I am four years on and all is brilliant.

what a lovely uplifting post 😊

I’m 6 weeks post open heart surgery for a mitral valve repair and I can’t believe how well I’m recovering in such a short time time .

Of course I get tired , I’m having to pace things and build up my excercise and today is my first cardiac rehabilitation class but onwards and upwards and I can certainly see how at 6 months you feel absolutely fine so any body on that waiting list please try not to worry as it’s not as scary as we had imagined 😊

lovely that you share the good news.

My case was possibly a bit more straight forward but I trust you will soon get the magic moment when you feel totally recovered. I can still recall that magic moment in August four years ago. The whole planet seems wonderful, indeed so does the solar system and stars beyond !

To anyone approaching the op, it’s not like general ops. So well organized. Almost certain to have your own room. Staff are really good. That’s how the whole NHS could be.
