Sore legs after the clips came out!!

Hiya Guys,

Well, as I posted earlier, the clips in my leg incisions came out on Thursday, and I've noticed there has been a small amount of "weeping" through the dressings, I'm guessing that this is a fairly common occurrence?

I'm back for clean dressings on Tuesday morning anyway, so I guess I'll get 'em sorted then.

Hope we're all "in the pink!".

Mick👍

Hello :-)

Maybe a little bit of weeping is ok but I am glad you have an appointment on Tuesday so they will be able to take a look

Not in the pink myself but hope you are :-) x

Something I found odd not sure if others had the same, I had a quad bypass and they took from my arm and leg.

I had zero clips at all, nothing in my leg and only one stitch in my arm near my wrist and that was it!! It's always puzzled myself and my wife how that was the case.

I had zero leakage of anything, I guess some kind of glue was used? Hats off to Papworth hospital anyway!!

Morning Mick - all well here and hoping you're still feeling in the pink too! 👍😊 My mammary arteries weren't good enough to use unfortunately so only my leg veins were used for all three of my bypasses. These were harvested via keyhole surgery so I only had a small cut at my knee and one at my ankle and both small wounds only needed two dissolving stitches each. I didn't have stitches for the sternum wound either - I was glued together using something called 'Dermabond' (I think that's the name of it anyway!). 🫨 The two small wounds from the drains at the bottom of my chest scar were stitched though and one of them was a bit 'damp' for about a week or so afterwards, but it cleared up really well and didn't require any creams or treatment. I'm sure a wee bit of weeping's entirely normal but we're always best to get these things checked out and hopefully they'll sort it all out when you get your new dressings tomorrow. Onward & upward! Carol

Good morning Carol, unfortunately "keyhole surgery" was not an option for me, they found that my veins were unusually small for a man of my size. The outcome was an incision from groin to ankle on the left leg, and from the groin to mid thigh on the right. I rang a friend who's a nurse this morning, she told me it was perfectly normal for there to be some "seepage" , so there we are. Going for my first quarter mile "stroll" today, can't wait, get so 'bloomin bored just stuck indoors or in the garden....Wish me luck!😃

I was cut the same as you, but not clipped just glued, but the groin to just below knee on right leg bled a lot and opened and has left an ugly scar compared to left leg mid thigh to ankle which ie barely visible said one leg wasn’t viable that’s why they opened other one but never said which one was not good. Hope you heal up quickly and get walking

Ouch! Jeepers, that sounds severe, Mick! I'm glad your nurse friend was able to reassure you and you'll probably have more reassurance at your re-dressing appointment tomorrow. I'm just home from work, it's still nice outside and I'm going take some exercise snipping things in the fresh air in the garden having sat inside on my behind all day. Every little helps & all that! 😂 Hope you managed your first quarter mile today - every little achievement really feels magnified after our ops and rightly so too. You're doing incredibly well with your recovery and long may it continue. You should be proud of those scars too - you earned them!

Evening Carol, well I did it! Never has a quarter of a mile seemed so long!

Pleased to hear that it's nice enough for you to have a tidy up in the garden.

Enjoy the rest of your evening.👍

Brilliant news, Mick, congratulations. It'll get easier, and I think you'll be surprised just how quickly it does - I know I certainly was. My first walk out alone after the op was just a slow trot round the corner to the local garage for some milk (didn't really need it, just wanted an excuse out to see how I'd get on!), I felt so good when I came back that I did a second lap after stopping for a yarn with a neighbour! 🤣
