Angina Pestoris, any sufferers? I'm looking for any possible remedies, do's don'ts, I'm struggling with this at the moment.

Welcome to the forum.

There are quite a few members of the forum who live with angina. I have had angina for many years mine is treated by medication.

Angina is the symptom of a lack of blood supply to the heart muscle, myocardial ischaemia. It can be stable or unstable and is usually treated by medication or if necessary by stents or coronary bypass surgery.

Most people's angina is caused by a permanent blockage of the coronary arteries by plaque.

Other types of angina are caused by the blood vessels themselves not working properly, microvascular or vasospastic angina.

The BHF has this information about angina.

The heart muscle has to work much harder pumping blood if you are overweight so dealing with that if relevant is important, to which will be attached a good diet and exercise.

I'm a good weight, and have a good diet, don't smoke, two stents fitted after a heart attack, very frustrating.

I have just been diagnosed with mild coronary artery disease and have angina, usually on exertion ,was on gtn but when walking dogs had to be aware that I would get the pain,so was put on Diltiazem tablets and it's a long acting gtn,but it has changed my life! No pain,no worries and can walk as far as I like

My husband knows that unless he is strolling slowly his angina will start 8 minutes after he starts walking. He rests when it starts until it has gone away and then walks on. He has become very aware of where there are places to sit down. If he walks slowly or is not thinking about it he can walk for longer. The pain is, I think, caused whenever the heart is stressed because it is not getting enough blood to pump properly. In my husband's case one of the causes of the pain is that 3 of the blood vessels that supply the heart muscle are badly blocked so he is waiting for the by-pass operation. Are you seeing the GP or others about this?

After my stents, a year ago, I thought all would become well! I was guided by cardiac rehab and through a phased back towork program, I was back to full-time work and all was well! Then disaster struck around November, I had dreaded what might happen in winter and it did. I suddenly started to get sharp heartburn/chest pain. I started using the GTN spray, for several weeks, until I got a doctors appointment. I was sent to hospital and after a short stay and many tests, sent home. I stayed on the GTNuntil they could figure out what to do. Eventually the cardiologist called me for an appointment and started me on Bisoprolol @1.25mg daily, lowest dose.

Since then I have not used the angina spray, 4months now. So far so good.
