Hi everyone

I am 1 month in to my recovery from a triple bypass.

I think all is going well and I can feel improvement.

I do get a lot of pain still in the top of my back under my shoulder blades.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what can be done.

Also was wondering when people after op managed to sleep on their sides again?

Hi, I'm similiar, pain somewhere across upper back shoulder blades (CABG +2weeks). Putting it down to posture of sleeping, sitting and lying down.

I've got 3 sleep positions: on back, slightly tilted to the left and slightly tilted to the right (supported by v pillow).

Sleep is getting better, but would love to sleep on side again!!

Hello :-)

One month is not long at all so you are doing really well

When they do this op they have us with our arms stretched up I think it is for about 6 hours and so a lot of us end up with shoulder , back and arm pain for quite a while after

Personally for me once I was back on the ward after the op I started sleeping on my side and that is the most comfortable I felt and the Nurses saw me as well as the Surgeon and never said I couldn't and I never had and problems sleeping that way so again only my experience I slept on my side more or less straight away

Remember it is early days and I hope your recovery keeps going well :-) x

Tried sleeping on my side last night after reading your note and a bit of googling. Only did about an hour on my side. Not as comfortable as my '3 sleep positions', mainly due to the grafted leg position rather than any chest discomfort. My sleep was ok and is improving, so sleeping on the side will have to wait - no problem for me as I've found a position that works ok.
